Update On DT Mike Patterson

Posted Dec 13, 2012

The Eagles placed defensive tackle Mike Patterson on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list on Wednesday after Patterson contracted viral pneumonia.

It was reported after the move was announced that there was a dispute regarding how much Patterson would be paid for the remainder of the season. On Thursday, general manager Howie Roseman said that the Eagles resolved any issue regarding Patterson's contract.

"We were looking at the contract and at the end of the day it is about the players. So, we made it happen," Roseman said. "I called Mike Paterson today and told him that we all care about him and can’t wait for him to get back."

Patterson's agent, Peter Schaffer, told Pro Football Talk that the Eagles rewarded the former first-round pick and team's longest-tenured player for being the "high-character player that he is."

"After a day of reflection, the Eagles and Howie Roseman decided to treat Mike like the high-character player that he is,” Schaffer said. "They’re doing it because they believe that players who have done what Mike has done for the franchise should be rewarded.  They always had Mike’s best interests at heart.  So they renegotiated his contract to remove the provision that automatically dropped his pay."
