Second Quarter Recap: Eagles Hold 24-3 Lead

Posted Dec 22, 2013

Absent the fireworks of the runaway first quarter, the Eagles maintained their lead in the second quarter thanks to an Alex Henery field goal. That may not sound like much, but the raucous Lincoln Financial Field crowd is more than happy to take a 24-3 halftime lead.

While the Bears have everything to play for – the NFC North crown is theirs with a win – it has been the Eagles who have played like the motivated team on Sunday Night Football. As a result, they'll get another date on Sunday Night Football next Sunday night when they take on the Dallas Cowboys with the NFC East title on the line.

While the offense was front and center in the first quarter, the defense took its turn to shine in the second stanza. Consecutive sacks by Trent Cole and Mychal Kendricks took the Bears out of field goal range early in the second quarter.

The Eagles then used the legs of LeSean McCoy and the arm of Nick Foles to drive down the field for a nine-play, 60-yard drive that set up Henery's 49-yard field goal.

The Bears responded before the half with a 50-yard field goal by Robbie Gould to pull within three scores. The Eagles will receive the ball to begin the second half.
