Roseman Updates On Jones, Mathis

Posted May 7, 2013

Felix Jones

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the team worked out former Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones. General manager Howie Roseman confirmed the visit later on Tuesday, but no roster move is imminent.

A first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2008, Jones, 6-0, 200, has rushed for 2,728 yards in five seasons on 4.8 yards per carry. The elusive and speedy 26-year-old has been occasionally slowed by injuries throughout his career. The Eagles currently have five running backs on the roster, including LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown.

Roseman also confirmed on Tuesday that guard Evan Mathis underwent a surgical procedure on his ankle. Mathis is expected to make a full recovery before the start of Training Camp. Former first-round pick Danny Watkins is expected to see first-team reps in Mathis' absence.

With the rookies reporting for minicamp this weekend, it will be the one chance for the team to see tight end Zach Ertz and cornerback Jordan Poyer before Training Camp. The two are allowed to take part in this camp, but will miss the rest of OTAs and the mandatory full-team minicamp due to the late graduation dates of their schools, Stanford and Oregon State, respectively.
