Report: Smith Interviewing In San Diego

Posted Jan 11, 2013

One day after reportedly meeting with the Eagles about their head coaching job, former Bears head coach Lovie Smith is reportedly headed to San Diego to interview with the Chargers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was the first to post the news regarding Smith's trip to meet with the Chargers. Smith completed a nine-year stint as the head coach of the Bears with an 81-63 record in the regular season and a Super Bowl appearance in the 2006 campaign. He also led the Bears to an appearance in the NFC Championship Game in 2010. The Bears were 10-6 this past season, but missed out on the playoffs.

The Eagles announced earlier this week that they were scheduled to meet with Smith, but did not confirm on Thursday whether the meeting took place. If the Eagles formally interviewed Smith, the team will have had six confirmed interviews for the team's head coaching position. The Eagles reportedly met with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly on Tuesday.

There are three other candidates whom the Eagles have been given permission to interview - Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.
