Report: RG III To Start Vs. Eagles

Posted Aug 28, 2013

Robert Griffin III

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will start against the Eagles in the Monday night opener on September 9.

This news comes just a day after Griffin III said that his surgically repaired right knee is feeling "100 percent." His knee was originally injured in the Redskins' Week 14 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. After sitting out just one game, Griffin III returned only to have his knee injured again in his team's Wild Card loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Griffin III had his LCL and ACL ligaments surgically repaired by Dr. James Andrews in early January. The second-year quarterback has not played in any of the Redskins preseason games and has been limited in practice.

Griffin III threw for 3,200 yards in his rookie season, tallying 20 passing touchdowns against just five interceptions. The former Heisman Trophy winner also ran for 815 and seven scores in 2012. The Redskins won their final seven regular season games to take the NFC East in 2012. Griffin III earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors for his role.
