Report: Peterson Unlikely To Play

Posted Dec 10, 2013

Things have changed very quickly regarding Adrian Peterson's status for Sunday's game.

After the Minnesota Vikings All-Pro running back told ESPN that he expected to play against the Eagles this week despite suffering a sprained foot in the second quarter of their loss to the Ravens on Sunday, reports came out late last night that Peterson is unlikely to play against the Eagles

Peterson had previously said that an MRI exam revealed no torn ligaments and, more importantly, ruled out a Lisfranc injury. Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier did not make any declarations about Peterson's availability for this Sunday. He only said that the team was waiting the results of more tests before making a determination. According to ESPN's Ben Goessling, those tests recommended that Peterson spend time in a walking boot, and that the running back will need to prove that he can run once he gets out of the boot.

Backup running back Toby Gerhart is day-to-day, per Frazier, with a hamstring injury suffered in relief of Peterson.

Peterson entered Week 14 as the NFL's leading rusher, but he was surpassed by LeSean McCoy's franchise-record 217-yard performance.
