Report: Jackson To Sign Tender

Posted Mar 12, 2012

Even though the Eagles applied the franchise tag on wide receiver DeSean Jackson back on March 1, the Eagles had to wait for the NFL to officially announce the value of the franchise tag before Jackson could sign it.

On Sunday, the NFL revealed the 2012 salary cap and the amounts that the franchise tag and restricted free agent tenders are worth. It appears, according to a report, that the Eagles will not have to wait long before Jackson signs his franchise tag.

Tim McManus of 97.5 The Fanatic tweeted late Monday night that Jackson is "expected to sign franchise tender Tuesday." Once Jackson autographs the franchise tender, he will be under contract for the 2012 season. If Jackson does not sign it, he will be allowed to negotiate with other teams beginning 4 P.M. on Tuesday. But if he signs with another team, and the Eagles don't match, the Eagles would receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

The Eagles can continue to work towards a long-term deal with Jackson until July 16. Otherwise, Jackson will have to play out the 2012 campaign under the franchise tag.
