Report: Eagles, Asomugha Talk Contract

Posted Feb 22, 2013

According to reports, the Eagles will meet with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha’s agent Friday morning to discuss restructuring his contract.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman will meet with Asomugha’s agent, Ben Dogra, Friday morning at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Adam Schefter of ESPN later tweeted that, during this meeting, the Eagles will ask Asomugha to restructure his deal. If he does not, he will be released.

Asomugha finished the 2012 season with 59 total tackles and an interception. Since coming to Philadelphia, the All-Pro has struggled to live up to the lofty reputation he earned in Oakland. The 31-year-old is due a reported $15.5 million for the 2013 season.

The Eagles have some important decisions to make at cornerback. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who started opposite of Asomugha in 2012, is a free agent. Earlier reports indicated that the Eagles will not use the franchise tag on Rodgers-Cromartie.
