Reid: When Ready, Vick Remains Starter

Posted Nov 19, 2012

While Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy continue to recover from their respective concussions, head coach Andy Reid confirmed Monday that, when he's ready to return, Vick will remain the team's starting quarterback.

"Well, we'll see how he does this week, but yes," Reid said when asked if Vick was still the team's starter.

Meanwhile, Nick Foles, the No. 2 quarterback, is coming off his first NFL start, an uneven performance in which the rookie threw for 204 yards and two interceptions for a 40.5 quarterback rating.

"I thought there were some good things that he did and then there are some things that he can definitely learn from," Reid said of Foles. "But he made a couple of nice throws, tight throws early that I thought were some pretty good plays. Again, there are some things that he can work on. He's a young guy; a rookie, so there were a couple of rookie mistakes, but there were some positive things too."

With the team sitting at 3-7 after 10 games, Reid said that he understands the frustration of the Eagles fan base and in the city of Philadelphia. After all, no one has higher standards of success for the Eagles than Reid himself.

"I know we're letting the fans down and the city down," Reid said. "I completely understand that. I completely understand how they feel on this. I feel it from the football team, our coaches and players. There are no excuses for it. We have to continue to get better, and that's eliminating the mistakes, and as coaches making sure that we are putting guys in the right position, and when we're in the right position, that we are making plays.

But with outside speculation about his future with the Eagles, Reid affirmed that he, like his players, won't be backing down from a fight any time soon.

"I'm standing in front of the team and telling them these are the things we need to do, one of which is to continue to battle," he said. "So, I think that'd be a cop-out. That's not how I see things. That's not the way I'm wired. We're going to keep battling and do it as a team. I'm not going to tell the guys one thing and then do the other."
