Reid Discusses WR Burress

Posted Jun 8, 2011

Pausing for a moment to speak with Philadelphia reporters during the annual Eagles Youth Partnership Playground Build at the Moffett School in Kensington, head coach Andy Reid downplayed recent speculation that the Eagles could be interested in signing wide receiver Plaxico Burress whenever free agency begins.

"I know him. I've known Plaxico," Reid said, "but listen, I haven't even looked at that. We're not there yet. There's nothing you can do. It's like any of the other free agents, there's nothing you can do there."

Burress was recently released from a New York prison after serving his sentence for weapons possession and reckless endangerment indictments. But Burress now finds himself in limbo with the rest of the league's free-agents-to-be as there can be no transactions during the work stoppage. But for some reason, Burress and the Eagles have been linked, despite the team's abundance of riches at the wide receiver position. The thought is that the Eagles had success two years ago when they brought in Michael Vick after his time in prison, so they wouldn't be reticent of the opportunity to acquire a once-upon-a-time playmaker like Burress.

But for all the talk, Reid said that Burress is one of the furthest things from his mind.

"I really haven't gotten into him at all, so far," he said. "Howie and I will somewhere, will look at it. But that's not where we're at. There's nothing we can do with anybody, so that's how it is."

For the record, in Burress' eight games against the Eagles as a member of the Giants, including playoffs, he went for over 100 yards receiving four times and had six total touchdowns. So perhaps the Eagles would want to eliminate the chance of Burress burning them again.

But on Wednesday, Reid, and the rest of the Eagles organization, had their total focus elsewhere.

"We look at everybody," Reid said."That's what (general manager Howie Roseman) and I do. Plaxico hasn't played in a couple of years. We know what he was about when he played. But listen, the important thing is this, (the Eagles Youth Partnership Playground Build), right here, today."
