RB Pumphrey Selected In Round Four

Posted Apr 29, 2017

The Eagles moved up seven spots in the fourth round to select another offensive playmaker on Saturday, drafting San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey with the 132nd-overall pick.

To move up, the Eagles traded picks 139 (fourth round) and 230 (seventh round) to the Minnesota Vikings.

Pumphrey, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of the most productive players in college football history. He finished his career at San Diego State as the all-time leading rusher in NCAA FBS history. In four years, Pumphrey racked up 6,290 rushing yards and another 1,013 receiving yards to go along with 66 total touchdowns.

At 5-8, 176 pounds, Pumphrey is built in the Darren Sproles mode. Sproles has said that 2017 would be his final season in the NFL, and Pumphrey could step into that role. Despite his smaller stature, Pumphrey has the potential to be an every-down back, as he had more than 300 rushing attempts in his final two serasons with the Aztecs
