"I’ve been really enjoying my time with the family because during the season I spend a lot of time at the NovaCare Complex. I get there really early and stay pretty late because it’s really important to me to put all of that extra work in. During the offseason, I spend a lot of time with family. My wife, Kylie, and I have a 3-year old son, Cannon James, and 7-month old son, Knox, so I’m hanging out and playing with them. I moved back to Houston during the offseason because I have a house here. I went to Rice and I’m a big Rice supporter, too, so I’ve been going to Rice baseball games as well.

"I know that I love football. I enjoy the process of studying film and getting ready for games and logging a lot of hours, which is required of coaches. I want to play as long as possible. I think I still have a lot of years left in me, but it doesn’t hurt to start planning a little bit at the same time to become a coach. I applied for the NFL-NCAA Coaching Academy which was held in Phoenix this year. There were a lot of guest speakers there and a panel for us to ask questions to athletic directors and other people who are part of the hiring process for coaches. I have a couple of other internship-type things planned so I can get in front of people and meet people and learn as much as I can about what it’s like to be a coach. My biggest fear is to be finished playing in the NFL and then having no plans whatsoever of what to do next. I want to build those connections and understand the process, so that once I’m done playing, hopefully a long time down the road, I’ll have an idea of what to do.

"I’m working out hard every day training here in Houston. The number one thing is to make sure I’m healthy and feeling good and then try to get as big, as strong and as fast as I can before the offseason workouts start in April. There are a lot of NFL guys who come back here that I see around Houston. Now that I’m getting a little bit older in my career, I’m doing everything that I can in the offseason so that I can be successful during the season."
