After a solid rookie season in which he was thrust into a difficult situation and performed admirably, Nick Foles entered 2013 under a new head coach in Chip Kelly and faced with the challenge of competing for the starting quarterback position. Though Foles lost the battle to Michael Vick in Training Camp and preseason, an injury to the latter forced him into action during the fifth game of the season against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Foles led the Eagles to a comeback victory over the Giants and, save for a hiccup against the Dallas Cowboys and a concussion that forced him to miss the next game, established himself as the team's quarterback of the future over the course of the rest of the season.
Despite starting just 10 games in 2014, Foles had one of the greatest, most efficient seasons for a quarterback in NFL history. He led the Eagles to an 8-2 record and an NFC East title, completed 64.0 percent of his passes, tied the record for touchdown passes in a game (seven) and led the league in quarterback rating (119.2), yards-per-pass-attempt (9.12) and fewest interceptions (two). Foles tossed 27 touchdowns (plus three rushing scores) and set the NFL single-season record with a 13.5-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
A cool, calm and collected leader on the field and a humble, unassuming and genuinely good guy off it, Foles proved wrong the doubters who purported he was not a fit for Kelly's NFL offense and set a number of team records along the way. With an entire offseason as the unquestioned starter, Foles knows he has to come back in 2014 even better than he was in 2013 because defensive coordinators have studied his tape and devised ways to slow him down. If he once again improves the way he did from his rookie season to his second season, there is no limit to what Foles can accomplish and how high he can take the Eagles.
