Offseason Program Countdown: 38 Days

Posted Mar 14, 2014

Believe it or not, the beginning of the Eagles' 2014 season is rapidly approaching. Players will report back to the NovaCare Complex on April 21 for the start of the Eagles offseason program. Join us as we count down until the Eagles are back in town …

In their first season as a 3-4 defense, the Eagles held opponents to an average of just 3.8 yards per carry in 2013. The Eagles run defense was locked in right from the start of the season. The unit didn't allow a 100-yard rusher until Week 9, when Oakland's Rashad Jennings ran for 102 yards, many of which came when the game was already out of hand. What's even more impressive is that Jennings was the only player to rush for 100 or more yards against the Eagles in 2013.

First Eagle to wear 38: G Bill Fielder (1938)
Current Eagle wearing 38: S Keelan Johnson (2013-present)

P/K Sam Baker (1964-69)

With 38 days remaining until the Eagles come back to town for offseason workouts, we have our first kicker in the countdown. Loris Hoskins Baker, or Sam Baker as you may know him, spent time playing for Washington, Cleveland and Dallas, but he spent the most time of his career with the Eagles. Collegiately, Baker played as a running back and kicker, and while he continued playing both of those positions in his first two NFL seasons, he eventually became solely a kicker and punter.

Baker joined the Eagles in 1964 after five seasons with the Redskins. He made the Pro Bowl twice as an Eagle in 1964 and 1968, and was a Pro-Bowl selection four times overall in his 15 year career. Baker certainly left his mark on the Eagles record book, as he ranks third in franchise history in scoring (475 points), made field goals (90) and made PATs (205).
