Offseason Program Countdown: 14 Days

Posted Apr 7, 2014

Believe it or not, the beginning of the Eagles 2014 season is rapidly approaching. Players will report back to the NovaCare Complex on April 21 for the start of the Eagles offseason program. Join us as we count down until the Eagles are back in town …

In a forgettable 2012 season, the Eagles played with a lead in just 14 percent of their offensive snaps, according to ProFootballFocus.com.  In 2013, the Eagles boosted that number all the way up to 44 percent, the eighth-highest percentage in the league. That increase of 30 percentage points was the second-largest jump in the NFL, behind only the Kansas City Chiefs (an increase of 49 percentage points).

First Eagle to wear 14: B Swede Hanson (1933-37)
Eagle currently wearing 14: WR Riley Cooper (2010-present)

WR Riley Cooper

In his first three seasons with the Eagles, Riley Cooper wasn't much more than a part-time player. With a lot of talented names ahead of him on the receiving depth chart, Cooper still managed to make plays whenever his number was called. He had 46 receptions over his first three years with the Eagles, but five of them had gone for touchdowns.

In 2013, that all changed. After the team's receiving corps was hit with a couple of devastating injuries in Training Camp, Cooper was thrust into the starting role, and the former fifth-round pick delivered. In his first consistent taste of starting on the outside, Cooper hauled in 47 catches (more than his first three seasons combined) for 835 yards and eight touchdowns. His 17.8 yards per catch tied him with Detroit's Calvin Johnson for the third-highest total in the league.

Cooper rebounded from a difficult start to the season away from the field with a terrific season on the field. For his efforts, the University of Florida alumnus was rewarded with a new five-year contract in late February. He and quarterback Nick Foles have shown a tremendous amount of chemistry in the time that they've played together, and Eagles fans are certainly looking forward to what that connection can do in 2014.
