Tight end Evan Moore has been around long enough to understand how the NFL works. After spending the last three seasons on the fringe with the Browns and Seahawks, he knows how to grasp an opportunity when it comes along. So after being released by Seattle earlier in the week, Moore immediately began looking for a new home. And on Thursday he found it, signing with the Eagles.

"In the NFL, nothing surprises me," Moore said after his first practice. "Crazy things happen and there’s nothing you can do about them. If you dwell on them, you’re going to miss an opportunity and I got an opportunity here. If I dwell on what happened there, I might miss out on something good."

Originally signed as a rookie free agent in 2008 by the Packers, Moore was signed to the Browns practice squad in 2009. He was eventually promoted to the 53-man roster, where he played for three seasons. Moore was released by the Browns at the end of this year's preseason, but quickly signed with the Seahawks and played in 14 games this season.

In his career, the 6-6, 250-pound tight end has played in 47 games, starting nine. He has 810 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 63 receptions in his pro career. His conditioning, as well as his experience in a similar system, should allow him to contribute as early as this weekend.

"I have been on a team the last 14 weeks, so I’m not necessarily coming off the couch," he said. "I felt like I was ready to practice and I think (the coaches) knew that. Fortunately some of this terminology is stuff I’ve done in the past, especially in Cleveland. I think the carryover will help me a lot trying to figure things out to be ready for Sunday if called upon. I’m fortunate to be in that position and have security and not being totally lost out there."

The timing works out well for the Eagles, who lost reserve tight end Clay Harbor for the season last Thursday night. Harbor suffered fractures in his lower back during the game and played through it, but was placed on Injured Reserve earlier this week. Behind starter Brent Celek will be Moore and fullback/tight end Emil Igwenagu.

Landing in Philadelphia should also be made easier by the fact that Trent Edwards, his college quarterback, has a locker only a few feet from Moore’s. The two are close friends, and Edwards was in Moore’s wedding in February.

"Once he got word of it, I think he was pretty excited, as was I," Moore said. "It’s good to be back with him."

Moore isn’t looking to set the world on fire in these finals weeks of the season. He’s simply looking to block, catch passes and help the Eagles end their season with two wins.

"I know we have two games left. I’m just trying to take advantage of this opportunity and help this team out as much as possible," said Moore, who is signed through 2013. "I’m not some ‘missing piece’ or anything. I’m just here to help this team as much as possible. I know we have two games left and I know these guys all want to win, as do I. We’ll see what we can do this weekend."
