Michael Vick: We Must Limit Mistakes

Posted Sep 24, 2013

The Eagles offense has been prolific in the first three games of the season. Only this week's opponent, the Denver Broncos, have gained more yards. The Eagles are first in plays of 20 yards or more with 23 (17 pass, six rush).

However, the Eagles are not as high in points scored as they probably should be. The Eagles rank eighth in the league with a more-than-respectable 26.3 points per game. What's keeping the Eagles from putting more points on the board? It's simple.

"We just have to limit the mistakes, make as many plays as possible," quarterback Michael Vick said on Tuesday.

The Eagles had a season-low 16 points in last Thursday's loss to the Chiefs. Vick threw his first two interceptions of the season, one of which was returned for a touchdown. In all, the Eagles had five turnovers.  The Eagles also had a season-low 30 percent success rate in third-down conversions against the Chiefs.

On the opposing sideline this Sunday will be Broncos All-Pro quarterback Peyton Manning, who has been simply prolific to start the season. Manning has completed 73 percent of his passes for 1,143 yards. He has 12 touchdowns against no interceptions for a 134.7 passer rating. Manning is on track to easily break his career-high total of 4,700 passing yards which was set as a member of the Colts in 2010. That year was the last time Vick and Manning squared off as the Eagles came out victorious on the positive end of a 26-24 decision.

"It's great, the competitive aspect of it," Vick said. "We all feel like we're pretty good and when you're going up against the best you want to showcase that. It's always fun."

If Vick can regain the form from the first two games of the season, the Eagles will be in position to defeat Manning again and hand the Broncos their first loss of the season.
