Michael Vick 'Optimistic' He Will Play

Posted Oct 22, 2013

Michael Vick took the first-team reps in practice for the Eagles on Tuesday. After practice, Vick said that he was a full participant - the same as last week - but he would not commit to being ready for Sunday's game against the Giants.

"I wish I could give you a definite answer, but I can't right now," Vick said.

Vick added that he has not fully tested the hamstring. He does not want re-aggravate it. However, Vick did say that he's "optimistic" about being available for Sunday and that if he continues to progress over the next couple of days he believes he will be able to play.

Vick has missed the last two games for the Eagles. Nick Foles, who took over in Vick's absence, is recovering from a concussion suffered during Sunday's 17-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Foles did not practice Tuesday.

Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur told reporters prior to practice to not read too much into Vick taking the first-team reps Tuesday.

"Mike will be out here taking the first-team reps," Shurmur said. "He'll be out there practicing and taking the reps. I wouldn't encourage you to assume anything. Coach (Kelly) has talked about it - who the starter will be is based on the health of the quarterbacks. He'll be out there working today with Matt Barkley and then we signed G.J. (Kinne) back for a lot of reasons."

Vick originally suffered his hamstring injury in the second quarter of the win over the New York Giants three weeks ago. The Giants will be the Eagles' opponent Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.
