All-Pro running back
McCoy's breakout season left an indelible mark on his peers as he was ranked as the league's 18th-best player in the NFL Network Top 100 Players of 2012. The voting is done solely by the players. In addition to his status as a top-20 player, McCoy ranked as the third-best running back behind only Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew (No. 12 overall) and Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, who despite suffering an severe ACL injury late in 2011 is ranked in the Top 10, which has not yet been unveiled.
On Twitter, McCoy goes by @CutonDime25 and that's how linebacker Nick Barnett described McCoy's style of play.
"He's a weapon for an offense. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. He can run the ball out of the backfield," Barnett said. "He cuts on a dime, makes good decisions and has the speed."
McCoy has drawn comparisons to Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders. Linebacker Kirk Morrison said that the Sanders comparison is true because McCoy makes "basketball-type moves on the football field."
"We haven't had that in the league in a long, long time," he added.
Jones-Drew has heard from other players that McCoy is one of the toughest players to tackle. At 23 years old, McCoy should be frustrating defenses for years to come. He skyrocketed from unranked in the Top 100 to No. 18 in one year. Who knows where he could be after 2012?
