LB Phillips Boosts Special Teams Units

Posted Mar 12, 2013

Understanding that the performance on special teams must be better in 2013, the Eagles added some juice with veteran linebacker Jason Phillips, who agreed to terms Tuesday on a two-year deal.

Originally a fifth-round selection of Baltimore in 2009, the 6-1, 240-pound Phillips has spent time with both the Ravens and Carolina Panthers in his four-year career as a reserve linebacker and special teams contributor, appearing in 29 total games.

The 27-year-old played in all 16 games (two starts) for the Panthers in 2012 and led the team with 16 special teams tackles. A standout at Texas Christian University, Phillips became the only player in conference history to garner All-Mountain West honors in four straight seasons, amassing 315 tackles, 7.5 sacks and two interceptions in 50 career games. A native of Waller, Tx., Phillips graduated with a degree in criminal justice.
