Kelly: The See Coast Offense?

Posted Nov 28, 2013

Say this for Eagles head coach Chip Kelly: He has ultimate confidence in what he and his coaching staff are doing.

One day after Arizona head coach Bruce Arians said the read-option offense is a "great college offense," the media asked Kelly during the head coach's Thursday press conference, repeatedly, about his reaction to Arians' comments.

The bottom line? Kelly is going to do what he is going to do with the Eagles, and that includes his offensive scheme, which he labeled the "See Coast Offense," as in, said Kelly, "if we see something and we like it and we think it fits, we're going to run it.

"The Philadelphia Eagles run the See Coast Offense," he said. "Let's run with that today and we'll go from there."

What is the Eagles' offense? Maybe this one line is all we need to know.

"We're a spread-out team," said Kelly.

"I think, basically, to answer everybody's question -- I don't care what other people think. It doesn't bother me. To spend time for me to think about what someone else thinks is counter to anything I've ever believed in my life. If I believe what other people think that means I value their opinion more than I value my own. That is not the case."

Moreover, said Kelly, the read-option is not an offense. It's a play. It's part of an offense.

"I think it's a play, and we don't run read-option, if you want to get really technical. We run a zone-read play once in a while.

"Our staff puts together a plan that we think is going to be successful that week and that's all we concern ourselves with."

On the health front, the Eagles have every player ready to go, with the exception of safety Earl Wolff. There are still a couple of days of training to go before Sunday's game. And Sunday's game is all Kelly and the Eagles are worried about.

"We've got a one-game season, we are playing the Arizona Cardinals and that's all we're concerned with," said Kelly.
