During the bye week, center
Kelce suffered a fully torn MCL and a partially torn ACL in the Week 2 win over Baltimore. The Eagles determined that the ACL needed to be repaired through surgery, so Kelce was placed on season-ending Injured Reserve on September 18. Kelce had the MCL repaired back on September 18, but had to wait for the swelling in the knee to subside before surgery could be done to repair the ACL. Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said that Kelce should make a full recovery in around nine months which should give him plenty of time to be ready for next year's Training Camp.
The promising second-year player started in all 16 games as a rookie last year and was expected to be an anchor for the offensive line in 2012. Kelce had received effusive praise for his performance as a rookie and was already considered to be one of the best young centers in the game.
