Jake Elliott Stays Hot With Four Field Goals In Win

CARSON, Calif. - So much for a post-61-yard-field-goal hangover.

Jake Elliott followed on his historic game-winning kick against the New York Giants by putting on a show in Los Angeles, nailing four field goals and putting all seven of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks in the Eagles' 26-24 win Sunday at the StubHub Center.

"It was a good day for all of us," Elliott said. "I felt calm and comfortable. Just had a lot of confidence approaching the ball and making solid contact. The snaps were great, the holds were perfect, and the protection was good. Everything worked."

Clearly, Eliott's confidence is at a high in his young NFL career. He calmly nailed a 45-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and followed that up with a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter to put the Eagles ahead 13-0.

After Los Angeles countered with a 75-yard Philip Rivers-to-Tyrell Williams touchdown play – Williams got behind cornerback Rasul Douglas on the play – the Eagles faced a decision on fourth-and-8 from the Los Angeles 35-yard line: Would head coach Doug Pederson go for it on fourth down, or would he give Elliott a chance?

Pederson chose the latter and Elliott rewarded the call with a right-down-the-middle 53-yard field goal to make the score 16-7 late in the first half.

Elliott came through again late in the third quarter with the Eagles clinging to a 16-10 lead. A 13-play, 60-yard drive at up 6:51 off the clock, but stalled in Los Angeles territory. Elliott boomed a 47-yard field goal with 55 seconds left in the quarter to make it 19-10.

"Jake was huge again today," quarterback Carson Wentz said. "Last week everyone knows what Jake did and what he accomplished, but 4-for-4 today, 2 of 2 on extra points, they weren't easy field goals, either. Those are huge points, especially in a two-point ballgame like that, so hat's off to Jake.

"We're thrilled about that kid."

It's kind of hard not to be. Elliott has a huge leg, he's in his groove, and he has confidence. That's the coveted triple crown for a placekicker.

"You just take it kick by kick," Elliott said, "and try to do the same things and stay on point. I'm feeling really good now. It felt good out there today."

The Philadelphia Eagles topped the Los Angeles Chargers 26-24 at StubHub Center.
