Henery Expects To Bounce Back

Posted Aug 23, 2014

Alex Henery has certainly not had the kind of preseason he was expecting. Despite making nearly every kick during practice during Training Camp, Henery is only 1-for-3 during the preseason and is coming off a missed 31-yarder in the Eagles’ 31-21 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Though he doesn’t want to dwell on the misses, Henery says he’s learned to be mentally tough after three seasons in the NFL.

“I think I’m pretty mentally strong,” Henery said Saturday. “I feel like I’ve moved past those (misses), but in the end you also want to remember them so you know what you’re working on, what you need to improve on so when there’s a game situation like that, it doesn’t happen again.”

But Henery now faces perhaps the stiffest competition he’s ever faced for his spot on the Eagles. The Eagles acquired Cody Parkey from the Colts just a few days ago, and head coach Chip Kelly has made it clear that the team needs to find consistency at the position.

“There’s always someone out there trying to steal your job,” Henery said. “It’s one of those things where you try to get better every day no matter who else is here or anything like that.”

As always, Henery’s approach to a rebound performance remains simple.

“Just go out there, try to hit good balls,” he said. “I’ve been hitting really good balls, it’s just those few bad ones that I’ve had have come at not good times. I just want to eliminate those and get ready for the season.”
