Fairly Significant Injuries For Cole, Peters

Posted Oct 3, 2011

The lines of scrimmage were hit hard by injury during Sunday's loss to the 49ers.

In addition to defensive tackle Antonio Dixon's season most likely being over due to a tricep injury, defensive end Trent Cole (calf strain) and offensive tackle Jason Peters (hamstring strain) suffered "fairly significant" injuries in the game as well, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Cole suffered a calf strain in the fourth quarter of the game on fellow end Jason Babin's third sack of the game. Reid said that the next couple of days are very important and the team will see how Cole does. Without Cole at the end of the game Sunday, the Eagles were down to just two healthy defensive ends in Babin and rookie Phillip Hunt.

Defensive end Darryl Tapp has been sidelined since the season opener in St. Louis. Tapp returned to practice in a limited capacity last week. He told reporters on Friday that he would most likely be kept out of Sunday's game against San Francisco with an eye on making his return this Sunday in Buffalo. Reid hinted that would be the case saying on Monday that Tapp was "very close" to returning.

Juqua Parker has missed the past two games with a high ankle sprain. Reid said that Parker could return to practice this week as his injury is "getting better."

Don't forget that last year's top draft pick Brandon Graham is on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Graham told reporters last week that he is confident that he will be able to play once he's eligible after the games in Week 6 are completed. Graham suffered a knee injury in last year's win in Dallas and the first game he could potentially play in would be the Cowboys game on October 30.

As for Peters, the All-Pro offensive tackle incurred his injury on the Eagles' last offensive play Sunday as he ran to help lead block for wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. Reid said that King Dunlap would "probably" be the person to replace Peters in the lineup. Dunlap started in five games in 2010 and two of them were for an injured Peters.
