On Monday night, the Eagles announced that they have agreed to terms on a new six-year deal with their franchise quarterback. There will be a press conference on Tuesday which you can watch on Eagles Live! beginning at 12:30 PM.
"I'm very happy we were able to reach an agreement with Michael on this long-term contract," said head coach Andy Reid. "It's a product of all the hard work Michael has done to better himself over the last couple of years, both on and off the field.
"I'm very proud that he has been able to achieve success again in this league, but he'll be the first one to tell you that there is a lot of work yet to be done by him and this team as a whole. And there's no doubt in my mind that he will continue on that path. I give a lot of credit to Joe Banner and Joel Segal for getting this deal done."
The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback and 2010 AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year enters 2011 as the team's full-time starter for the first time. After taking over the starting job early in the 2010 season, Vick enjoyed a career-year as he was among the league leaders in QB rating, yards per pass attempt, fourth quarter QB rating, fewest interceptions thrown and total touchdowns.
As good as he was in 2010, Vick's teammates believe that he will be even better in 2011.
"I think he's become the ultimate leader of this team," tight end
Vick led the Eagles to the NFC East title last season in his ninth NFL campaign. With this new deal, Vick will be under contract with the Eagles through the 2016 season. He was previously playing under the one-year franchise tender.
