Eagles Release First Depth Chart

Posted Aug 8, 2011

The Eagles unveiled their first depth chart of the 2011 season on Monday morning. Let's look at how the team's roster is beginning to take shape.

OFFENSE

Quarterback: Vince Young is listed as the backup to Michael Vick.

Running Back: No surprise that Ronnie Brown is the primary backup to LeSean McCoy, but rookie Dion Lewis is third on the depth chart ahead of veteran Eldra Buckley.

Fullback: Owen Schmitt remains the starter.

Tight End: Second-year man Clay Harbor is ahead of Donald Lee on the depth chart, but Brent Celek is entrenched as the starter.

Wide Receiver: The first four are set with DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and Riley Cooper. The third-team receivers are Chad Hall and Sinorice Moss and the fourth-team wideouts are Terrance Turner and Johnnie Lee Higgins.

Offensive Line: Jamaal Jackson is the starter at center with Ryan Harris the man at right tackle. Note that since he is on the Physically Unable to Perform List, Winston Justice is not on the depth chart. Austin Howard is the backup left tackle and King Dunlap the No. 2 right tackle. Evan Mathis and Mike McGlynn are the backup guards, left and right respectively.

DEFENSE

Defensive End: Juqua Parker is the first-team left defensive end ahead of Jason Babin. Mike Patterson and Antonio Dixon are the starting defensive tackles with Trevor Laws and Cullen Jenkins on the second team. Rookie free agent Cedric Thornton is on the third team ahead of veteran Derek Landri.

Linebacker: Yes, Casey Matthews is the starter at middle linebacker flanked by Jamar Chaney on the weak side and Moise Fokou on the strong side. The second-team alignment is Greg Lloyd in the middle with Keenan Clayton on the weak side and Akeem Jordan on the strong.

Cornerback: Which Pro Bowl corners are atop the depth chart? Asante Samuel is lined up on the left side with Nnamdi Asomugha on the right. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is the primary backup to Samuel with Joselio Hanson as the third-team left corner. Trevard Lindley is the backup on the right side with Brandon Hughes behind Lindley.

Safety: Juan Castillo's new defensive scheme essentially switches the safeties as Nate Allen is now the strong safety with Kurt Coleman in as the free safety. Rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett backs up Coleman on the weak side (free) and Jarrad Page is the No. 2 strong safety.

SPECIAL TEAMS

No surprise with the specialists since there is only one kicker (Alex Henery), one punter (Chas Henry) and one long snapper (Jon Dorenbos). For the record, Brent Celek is the backup long snapper. DeSean Jackson remains the primary punt returner with Johnnie Lee Higgins as the backup. Higgins is the primary kickoff returner with Dion Lewis at No. 2.
