Eagles Release DE Vinny Curry

Posted Mar 16, 2018

The Eagles made yet another difficult decision on Friday releasing longtime defensive end Vinny Curry.

A lifelong Eagles fan, Curry was a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2012 out of Marshall. The Neptune, New Jersey native became a full-time starter for the first time in his career in 2017 as he helped bring the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia.

He had a career-high 48 tackles and 41 combined quarterback pressures and hits to go along with three sacks and in 578 snaps this past year.

In his six seasons with the Eagles, Curry had 147 tackles, 85 combined quarterback pressures and hits, 27.5 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 84 regular-season games (16 starts).

“We want to thank Vinny Curry for his contributions to our organization over the last six seasons, including the important role he played in bringing our city its first Super Bowl championship," the team said in a statement. "It’s difficult to part ways with a player like Vinny who has made an impact on the field, in the locker room and in the community. We wish Vinny and his family all the best moving forward.”

Drafted to fly off the edge in a 4-3 front, Curry gained 30 pounds from the time he was drafted to his second season to line up as a 280-pound 3-4 defensive end. He had a career-high nine sacks in 2014 and followed that up with a combined 21 quarterback pressures and hits the following year.

Who would’ve thought a small town boy from Neptune, NJ who grew up an Eagles fan, would’ve been drafted to his favorite team and win his and the teams first Super Bowl Championship! All Gods Plan! Philadelphia, Thank You! Thank you fans for opening your arms and taking me in as one of your own! This has been a dream come true for me to have the ability to play for my dream team and bring the Lombardi trophy home to you all! Thank you to the entire Eagles organization, coaching staff and my teammates, MY BROTHERS! UNDERDOGS! Without you guys, none of this would’ve been possible! I love you all from the bottom of my heart! I am humbled by this opportunity and can’t be more proud to call myself an Eagle for life! This experience has been one hell of a ride! I can’t wait to see what the future now holds for me. Thank You Philly!
