Eagles Receive Compensatory Pick

Posted Mar 18, 2013

The Eagles received a seventh-round compensatory pick from the NFL on Monday. The team now has nine total picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.

In all, the NFL awarded a total of 32 compensatory picks for the net loss of free agents in 2012. Using the formula developed by the NFL Management Council, the free agents who factored into the Eagles' compensatory pick were defensive end Juqua Parker (signed with Browns) and wide receiver Steve Smith (signed with Rams) against the addition of offensive tackle Demetress Bell.

Sixteen teams were awarded compensatory picks led by the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens with four apiece. Since 1994, when compensatory picks were first awarded, the Eagles have had a total of 30 selections which is tied for the third most with Dallas just behind Baltimore (37) and Green Bay (31).

For those who dismiss late-round compensatory picks, safety Kurt Coleman and fullback Stanley Havili are recent players who were added with the extra selections.

Here is an updated look at the Eagles' complete 2013 draft picks.
