Eagles Prep For Richardson, Haden

Posted Sep 5, 2012

No news is good news when it comes to cornerback Joe Haden of the Cleveland Browns.

Haden was suspended by the league for four games for violating the league's policy regarding performance-enhancing substances. Haden appealed and the league has not notified him of the result which means that for now he is allowed to play Sunday against the Eagles. Quarterback Michael Vick told Cleveland reporters during a conference call on Wednesday that he considered Haden a top-five cornerback.

The Browns' other source of good news Wednesday came from first-round pick Trent Richardson. The running back was sidelined for the preseason after having his knee scoped, but he was a limited participant in practice. All signs point to Richardson playing although he said he's day-to-day.

“I think it is going to feel good if I am out there on the field," Richardson said. "Anyway that it goes I know these guys are going to do whatever they can to win the ballgame. If I’m out there or not, I’m a team player first so I’m going to do the best thing I can to help this team. If I’ve got to sit out or if I’ve got to play, whatever it is, I am behind them 100 percent and I know they are behind me 100 percent. I really just can’t wait to see what this program can do."

The news is not-so-good, however, regarding starting strongside linebacker James-Michael Johnson. He did not practice on Wednesday due to a ribs/oblique injury and is likely not going to play against the Eagles. The linebacking corps has been depleted for the Browns with Chris Gocong lost for the year due to an Achilles injury and Scott Fujita suspended for his role in bountygate with the Saints. Rookie free agent L.J. Fort is set to start for Johnson.

Two offensive linemen didn't practice for the Browns - Oniel Cousins and John Greco. Nine Browns including Richardson were limited - tight end Jordan Cameron (groin), safety Eric Hagg (illness), quarterback Thad Lewis (thumb), running back Chris Ogbonnaya (ankle), cornerback Dimitri Patterson (knee), Richardson, defensive back Ray Ventrone (hamstring), tight end Ben Watson (thigh) and defensive back Usama Young (thigh).
