Eagles Claim WR Salas Off Waivers

Posted Nov 23, 2012

The Eagles claimed wide receiver Greg Salas off waivers from the New England Patriots on Friday. To make room for him on the roster, wide receiver Mardy Gilyard was released.

A fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2011, the 6-1, 209-pound Salas caught 27 passes for 264 yards and returned two punts in his rookie season. He was traded to the New England Patriots for a future seventh-round draft pick on September 1, but was released when Deion Branch was re-signed just over two weeks later. Salas returned to the practice squad, but was promoted for the team's Week 11 game against the Colts. He was released on Thursday, but the Patriots were reportedly interested in bringing him back to the practice squad again.

Salas did not have a catch this season. He worked as a slot receiver with New England.

Gilyard was ironically a fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2010. He returned to practice this week after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury.

Salas started 40 of 49 games at Hawaii, finishing his collegiate career with 285 catches for 4,345 yards and 26 touchdowns. He earned named All-WAC honors twice and his receiving yardage total ranked first in school history, third in conference history and tied for sixth in NCAA history.
