Head coach Doug Pederson welcomed his players back onto the practice fields at the NovaCare Complex on Sunday and now looks ahead to two days of practice with Miami. On Monday, the teams will conduct a joint practice in full pads and helmets. There are no "live" periods, however.

On Tuesday, the teams practice in shoulder pads, helmets and shorts and on Wednesday the teams conduct a walk-through.

It's a chance for the Eagles to work against another team, different players, and spice things up just a bit in the third week of the preseason.

"It's great for them to come up and it's great for our guys. A little change of scenery for both teams. Adam (Gase, Miami head coach) has talked about it and rehearsed everything, gone over everything. The coordinators have talked," Pederson said. "We're well prepared for this deal and we're just excited to get them in here and get some good work in for a couple of days."

Pederson met the media on Sunday. Here is what he said.

  • Defensive end Derek Barnett is listed as day to day with a lower body injury and missed practice on Sunday. "He'll be OK," Pederson said.
  • After watching the game film from the 20-16 win over Buffalo on Thursday night, Pederson was pleased that the defense had four takeaways, but peeved that the offense turned the ball over three times. "I thought the first defense really played extremely fast, played well, created some turnovers for us offensively, did a nice job at the start of that football game. They got 25 snaps and did a nice job. I thought offensively we started slow. We had a couple of position changes (right tackle Lane Johnson moved to left tackle and Matt Tobin started at right tackle) the day before the game. No excuse, we've got to go play." Pederson also said the Eagles need to "clean up before Thursday" the penalties. The Eagles were whistled for nine penalties in the game.
  • On the progress of rookie cornerback Rasul Douglas: "He's getting better. I'm encouraged by what we've seen out of Rasul. The more reps, the better. At the same time, too, watching is also very good."
  • On defensive tackle Beau Allen, who is rehabbing from a torn pectoral muscle: "He's getting close. I can't put a specific time on it. He's one of the guys I don't want to rush back (into playing action). … Hopefully, he's ready for Washington (on September 10)."
  • Running back Wendell Smallwood was on the field for Sunday's practice, an encouraging sign after he has missed two preseason games. "He needs those reps. He's missed some time (with a hamstring injury). It's a chance to get back in the offense and pick up where he left off."
