DeMeco Ryans Satisfied With Recovery

Posted May 31, 2015

DeMeco Ryans led the Eagles in tackles in each of his first two seasons in Philadelphia, registering 325 total tackles during that time. The savvy inside linebacker was on his way to leading the team in tackles again in 2014 until a return trip to Houston in early November ended with a season-ending right Achilles injury.

Six months later, Ryans was back out on the NovaCare Complex practice fields as the Eagles began Organized Team Activities.

“I feel pretty good for where I am right now and the recovery process is going really well,” Ryans said after Thursday’s training session.

Ryans’ 2014 injury marked his second-career Achilles tear, having torn the same tendon in the opposite leg in 2010. Following that first injury, Ryans was able to come back and start all 16 regular season games in 2011, and while he’s not ready to claim a complete bill of health just yet this time around, he’s getting closer to being 100 percent.

“I’m not doing everything,” Ryans explained. “I’m gradually progressing into doing everything, but I am doing position drills and that’s going really well.”

Even if Ryans isn’t totally able to lead by example on the field, his rehab process isn’t keeping him from being an outstanding leader off of it. The Eagles' inside linebacking corps features new faces like Kiko Alonso, Jordan Hicks and Brad Jones, and Ryans is once again making a point to show them the Eagles way.

“We’re all assimilating and getting used to what we’re doing here,” Ryans said. “The older guys are definitely responsible for bringing in the new guys and making sure they understand our culture and what we do here, so it’s been a smooth process so far.”
