Alonso Anxious To Return Sunday Night

Posted Nov 3, 2015

The Eagles have been without Kiko Alonso since Week 2 this season after he left the Dallas game with an injured left knee. However, that will change this weekend as the inside linebacker plans to return to the lineup on Sunday, facing the very same team he last played against.

Alonso was asked following Tuesday's practice when he will play, and the linebacker responded, "this weekend." Throughout the week Alonso plans to practice full-go, and while he doesn’t know how much action he’ll see in the game, the linebacker is more than ready to suit up with his teammates again.

“Obviously I’ve missed some time and it’s never fun to miss time and watch your teammates go out there,” Alonso said. “I’m very anxious to get back out there.

“Our guys have really stepped up and done a good job. Jordan Hicks has done a great job. But, yeah I want to get in there and help the team.”

Entering this season, Alonso was ready to make his return after missing all of 2014 with a torn ACL. He did not wear a brace on the repaired knee in his first two games back, and he doesn’t plan to wear one when he returns this weekend either.

“I feel comfortable without it,” he said. “It’s always good to not wear all that stuff because it just kind of ... you can’t move as well with all that.”

In the only full game he played as an Eagle, Alonso was on the field for 66 percent of the defensive snaps and recorded an acrobatic, one-handed interception. When healthy, he can be a difference-maker for this team.

After missing five games, he physically feels great. The bye week allowed extra time for rehabbing his injury and regaining strength in his knee. Now, it’s a matter of studying the Cowboys, watching film and being mentally prepared for game action.

“I think the biggest thing is I just have to keep watching film and staying in there,” Alonso said. “At the end of the day, hopefully I won’t miss a beat if I keep watching film and keep my head in it.”
