Aloha! Evan Mathis Headed To Pro Bowl

Posted Jan 14, 2014

He was named the best offensive lineman by Pro Football Focus.

He was selected as one of the top two guards in the NFL this season by The Associated Press.

Finally, guard Evan Mathis gets his due and is headed to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. Originally named an alternate, Mathis will be headed to the NFL's all-star game thanks to the results from this past weekend's playoff games.

The witty and comical Mathis went on Twitter to celebrate in a befitting way.

It's only just that the man who protected Pro Bowl quarterback Nick Foles and paved the way for Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy gets in on the fun. Tackle Jason Peters was also selected to go to the Pro Bowl, but has declined the invite.

Signed by the Eagles in 2011 as a journeyman, Mathis has thrived since arriving in Philadelphia. Mathis was rewarded with a five-year contract after his first season with the Eagles. This past year, Mathis played all 1,104 offensive snaps for the highest scoring offense in franchise history. Mathis was integral in McCoy's franchise-record 1,607 rushing yards in 2013.
