Acho Returns To Take Hicks' Roster Spot

Posted Nov 9, 2015

The Eagles replaced one former University of Texas linebacker with another on Monday.

Just hours after the team announced that rookie Jordan Hicks was placed on Injured Reserve with a torn pectoral muscle, the Eagles welcomed back Emmanuel Acho, who has had multiple stints with the team.

The 6-2, 240-pound Acho was most recently with the team this past preseason until he was waived/injured with a thumb injury. The fourth-year veteran returns on the eve of his 25th birthday. Last season, Acho played in 14 games, including his first two career starts. He had a career-high 36 tackles, playing 23 percent of the snaps on defense.

Acho is familiar with the scheme which will help as the team looks to offset the loss of one of the best surprises of the season in Hicks. The team's third-round pick had 54 tackles, two interceptions (including a pick-six Sunday night against Dallas), three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and a sack. He was injured tackling wide receiver Cole Beasley in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s win.

Hicks was thrust into the starting lineup after injuries to Kiko Alonso and Mychal Kendricks. Fortunately, Alonso and Kendricks have both returned to action. Linebacker DeMeco Ryans has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, but is inching closer to coming back. The Eagles also have Najee Goode and Brad Jones to help out at inside linebacker in addition to Acho.
