Reid To Evaluate Everything In Offseason

Against his will, Andy Reid now has a lot of time.

The Eagles head coach is detailed and deliberate, and his offseason, which started Monday, will involve going over anything and everything in review of the 2008 season. With as much of a rollercoaster as the season was, especially late, Reid can now take his time with his offseason review.

What's clear – there will be change in Philadelphia. What will change, Reid doesn't know. That's for time to decide.

Reid
Head coach Andy Reid

"These playoffs are very final. You obviously have a bitter taste in your mouth right now, but I don't want to take away, also, the good things that this team accomplished and the personality they developed this season," Reid said. "Next year will be a new year and new roads to travel as we put together a football team. This was a special football team, doing the things they did."

Reid held his final Monday press conference about an hour later than usual – he said he had to finish meeting with "every player on the team." With some players, it's natural to assume what was discussed.

Mainstays Jon Runyan, Tra Thomas and Brian Dawkins are free agents approaching the twilights of their careers, but all have expressed a desire to continue playing in Philadelphia, but would play elsewhere if the opportunity arises. Still, Reid said nothing has been decided with any of his 10 free agents in terms of the 2009 season.

With players under contract, quarterback Donovan McNabb expressed a desire to meet with the front office during the offseason to discuss his future with the team. On Monday, team president Joe Banner said in a statement that he fully expects McNabb to be an Eagle next season. But then, there's the possibility of Reid's assistant coaches going elsewhere to take new jobs.

Reid admitted that looking to the future is difficult with how much Sunday's loss in Arizona still stings, and things will need to take time to settle down before any major decisions are made. But there will be turnover.

"Again, I haven't gotten there yet. I'll evaluate, like I always do, what we have here," "Again, this is all too fresh right now. We will see how (things go) in the next day or so."

The disappointment for Reid is in how many times he's had to hold this press conference after the NFC Championship Game – four times in five appearances. And the next chance to rectify the errors made Sunday come 12 months from now, with 11 months of hard work in between and at least 18 more games.

For Reid, the time for evaluation started Monday. That's when he will decide what changes the Eagles make to try to get back to this point.

"You have to take a little time. You have to go back and look at the film. You have to communicate with the personnel department, you have to look at the contract side of things and how that fits in," Reid said. "You have to look at everything; it takes a little time. It's just not as cut and dry as people might want to make it."

We need everything that everyone else needs, especially the 28 teams that didn't make it. Thanks to Pete Rozelle, we have what is now a balance league to the most part. It is entertainment that get us excited. However I subscribed that the pain is worse for the participants. Adjustments are part of the chess game in football. Sometimes injuries can dictate scenarios. With all that being said, Reid has not only had to deal with personnel changes, but also staff loses. The FO dictates how money is being spent. AR works for Joe Banner and these issues give AR & DMAC the basis for arguing for specific personnel additions. They must look at this as a rebuilding year with previous picks having developed and providing a base to build. They gained tremendous experience. Tweaking the team with the new era of NFL taking form will get them to everyone's desired and preferred destination. This year everyone will have a CHIP some where on their body!

I think Dmacc should stay, i mean look at th numbers he's put up with out bg time recievers. wat AR needs to do is loose reggie,lj and hank then get big time reciever to back up djaxx. Also get some one to back up westbrook and fix this o line cuz 3 yrds a carrie isnt gonna get you any where

This team needs a legitimate blocking back and short-yardage big back much more than a stud receiver. In addition, there needs to be a commitment to the running game with a running back that can handle the load.

Many Eagle fans place a lot of blame on Reid & McNabb because we are objective and face the facts. The Reid/McNabb duo has had 10 years of opportunities and while they got close, there's still no championship. AR's offense is so limited that his game plan is very predictable, yet he seems to be of the belief his team can win every game if they would just execute properly, which leads me to McNabb. He will occasionally make the spectacular play, but will more often fail to execute the routine play. I felt it would be better in the long run if we lost to Dallas and Washington won their season finale, which would have given us a last place schedule next year and perhaps the realization this Eagles team is stuck in the mud. As it now stands, hope springs eternal once again, so it looks like we're in for at least another year of losing too many games we should have won and in the end, again falling short. Of course I wish this were not the case, but wishing doesn't make it so.

Boldin's attitude is not even in the same ball park as TO. How would you feel if your QB and coach got together and said no matter what throw it fitzgerald because thats what warner says went down. Boldin or Housh would be nice paired with Curtis in the slot working his quick slants and Djax (put on some size kid) opposite. But we need a young O-linemen.

Im so sick and tired of everyone bagging McNabb he has had his ups and downs this year and with the wide recievers he had this year he has done an awesome job. But look back at the T O era when they went to the superbowl with these two pretty much carrying the offense, just think with Jackson Curtis and another number one reciever hopefully Boldin even possibly TJ that recieving group would be hard to stop. also hopefully signing or drafting a good big back to help westbrook and the team out on short downs the eagles would be a powerful for years to come..

btc653)))) dude you nailed it... Mcnabb is a GREAT QB... I really can't understand why ppl don't absolutely think the same. Ppl say he can't win the big game? Well the one year our FO decided to give him one, guess what happened? OMG!!!! We went to the Super Bowl!!!! Maybe this offseason we can get a big, fast, tall, good jumping, good blocking, all around receiver. Not to mention names but Aquan Boldin looked rather pissed in the Eagles game at Todd Haley. I think he wants out now that he's numba 2.

I wouldnt be mad at McNabb nor would I blame him if he wants out. We havent given him the appreciation he deserves and he could easily sign with a team who has excellent receivers, and he deserves to be on a team with great receivers. I just hope that team could be us.

Scotto_65))))) Let me tell you something, You're expecting mcnabb to make every possible play on every opportunity. I don't mean to come across as harsh but it's because we demand so much from him that he hates this town. Even if he'd have thrown thows passes good who knows if the receiver would have dropped them. Mcnabb's performance was more than enough to win that game. We need a running game that actually gains more than 3 yards a carry and our defense sure as heck didn't play like the #3 D in the NFL. Mcnabb may have missed 3-4 passes but (insert name of who you would prefer here) might have thrown 10 bad passes. Every QB misses some opportunities. Peyton Manning has bad days. You don't see people blaming him for their loss to SD do you. THIS IS TO EVERY EAGLES FAN... I WANT MACNABB TO REMAIN THE QB HERE SO STOP CRITICIZING HIM!!!!! GO EAGLES!

I REALLY dont understand how anyone can want McNabb out. He has had great numbers despite not having a big time receiver. AND if we were to cut him, who else would we play? A guy who has thrown 0 TDs and 4 INTs in the nfl? Thats not the type of guy to lead a team to the superbowl.

I only post every once in while when I feel the need to silence a few idiots. Mcnabb is or best option. 375 plus passing yards 3tds and 1 int. He was not our issue. D lost this game so could you all just drop the McNasty remarks. We will be lucky if he doesnt do evrything possible to get outta here because of this same **** over and over..With that WR set we should not have blitzed so much. They knew it was coming and adjusted properly. Get over it...Not to mention Fitz is gonna be the next if not better than yea i said it J rice. He handled our Dbacks like little women.

Man, I'm still bummed over this magical season we had. I would have liked for B-Dawk, Runyan, Tra Thomas and all the veterans and significant players that have contributed to this season to have had won the superbowl. It's really a shame and depressing because some of them may not be here next year and to have been soooo close to winning the big one so many times and not doing it is extremely frustrating and depressing. Oh well... Figures it would happen to US eagles right? I guess thats just the way it has to be. Just a damn shame.

All you people are MISSING THE POINT. No one is saying that McNabb can be easily replaced. No one is saying he should have a pass accuracy of 100%. Everyone's tendency is to blame the WR group and say we have to go out and over spend on (insert WR name here). What a number of us have been saying is that McNabb missed 3 or 4 big play opportunities under little pressure because of terrible accuracy. It wouldn't have made a difference who the WR was on those passes no one can make a play when the ball is 3 feet off target. Now I'm not a mathematician but if McNabb hits one of those plays for a TD and you add 7 more points to our total who is playing in the Super Bowl? P.S. STATING THE FACTS IS NOT BEING A HATER.

how can some blame McNabb? No QB is 100% during a game - and his record of championship/winning years proves that this city and team would suffer this loss. listen to the interviews of the players. McNabb is respected in that locker room. at times, he has made chicken soup with chicken s***. the blitz (while i love johnson's scheme) killed us this past sunday.

we finally got a decent receiver core but DECENT isn't good enough. we need to drop GREG LEWIS,REGGIE BROWN AND L.J. SMITH. We need to go hard after T.J. HOUSMAZADAH of the Bengals he is a free agent this year. Wide Receiver is important but not the only position we need fill. we need another DEFENSIVE END. i watched our pressure on opposing QBs and it all comes from blitzes. without the blitz they have time to throw. i think we can go after JULIUS PEPPERS. We also need a younger OL,because sadly Runyan wont last forever so we need to start drafting now. Andy Reid should come back but he should not make the offseason decisions because he seems to settle for the mediocre all the time.

I hope to god that andy reid will stay dedicated to the run next year.I think westbrook is awesome, and i know he was banged up all year, but he still would of finished the reg. season with a 1000 yards rushing if he had more carrys.I would like to see another back drafted and get a few carrys a game and learn off westbrook.I hope its not the case for b-west but usually when a running back hits his thirtys its all down hill.Buckhalter had a great year for the little bit he is used and averaged at least 5 yards a carry all year.Maybe we could pick up a power back and use all three next year.It works for the giants.

Reid needs to evaluate everything, including taking a long hard look in the mirror. If we had drafted better, spent the money under the cap that was there to get better things might be different here. But that didn't happen. We lost another championship game because we were outcoached. Couple an inconsistent QB who couldn't hit his receivers in stride, or missed open receivers yet again; add 4 points misses by our kicker, and we had to get a td to tie late. McNabb missed 2 throws on the last drive, and we lose. Yeah he's been good. Hall of fame good? I don't see it without a ring. After yet another up and down season, one in which we were lucky to extend into the playoffs which we shouldn't have been given the opportunity to do, and then lose to a team we beat by 28 points earlier in the year, is cause for dismissal. Who goes? I have my opinion, but it looks like we'll be subjected to another year of the same crap if something doesn't change.

I know Mcnabb is off target sometimes but, as long as he's in Philly we have a legitimate shot. We need a true fullback to block for B-West and that can catch the ball coming out of the backfield. Klecko is not the solution. And another TE to complement Celek, cause LJ's not coming back... And Reid needs to change is playcalling. Running out of shot-gun is a bad idea every defense sees it coming. They need to go 2 backs, some 2 TE. Keep Curtis and Jackson in the game as much as possible. Avant is good in the slot. And Basket has potential but needs to reduces drops. Lewis should be let go. We need Thomas or Runyan or both back. Justice isn't ready to take Mcnabb's back. D is great and can only improve. But we need B-Dawk... he's the heart and soul of this team.

Why does everyone here besides nathanb and transplantedeagle refuse to see the bad throws mcnabb has.JERRY RICE could not catch some of the balls he throws.I know we dont have a good back up QB,and mcnabb does a great job sometimes. How can a professional athlete be so good at times and than play so bad when we really need him to be at his best over and over again.I dont hate mcnabb, but i dont close my eyes when a pass is thrown in the dirt or behind someone.Anyone who knows any thing about football knows you lead a man with the ball so he can make the catch and keep running not dive to the ground or jump with your legs 3 feet in the air waiting for someone to crush you before u hit the ground. The DEFENSE carried this team all year long not the QB.
