The Eagles had a busy and productive day on Monday. Early in the day the team announced that tackle Calvin Armstrong and linebacker David Bergeron signed four-year deals.
Then it was Patterson's time. The 31st pick in the April draft, Patterson waited until a few of the other first-round draft picks, including New England's Logan Mankins, the 32nd overall pick, and Oakland's Fabian Washington, the 23rd selection, agreed to terms earlier in the day.
Patterson is expected to fit right in to the rotation at defensive tackle. The team was impressed with his quickness and ability to learn the defensive scheme in the spring.

Armstrong was one of three offensive linemen drafted this year (tackle Todd Herremans
and guard Scott Young were the others). Armstrong will battle a slew of young offensive linemen for a roster spot. The Eagles have drafted seven offensive linemen over the last two years.
After the team's starting tackles, Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, the offensive lineman with the most experience is sixth-year veteran center Hank Fraley.
Bergeron faces similar odds at the linebacker position. The team's second seventh-round pick out of Stanford had 71 tackles last season and earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors as a junior.
Bergeron will try to break into John Harbaugh's special teams unit. McCoy was the only other linebacker drafted by the Eagles in 2005.
