The Ravens lead the NFL in the one defensive statistic that matters most: points allowed. Baltimore has allowed only 85 points in six games, almost 100 fewer points than the Raiders and Saints have allowed this season.
The Ravens allowed 27 points to the Chiefs earlier this month in a losing cause. Now comes Philadelphia on Sunday, and the Ravens also have dates left this season with New England and Indianapolis.
If you can move the ball and score points on the Ravens, you can move the ball and score points on anyone. Baltimore has star power on its defense with Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware, Chris McAlister and Deion Sanders. The Ravens pride themselves in slamming the door shut.
But the Eagles pride themselves on reaching the end zone. They rank first in the NFC in scoring with Donovan McNabb
, Brian Westbrook
and Terrell Owens lighting opponents up on a weekly basis.
The Eagles rank fourth in the NFL in yards. The Chiefs rank fifth, and the Colts rank third. The defending Super Bowl champion Patriots also are hanging around the edge of the top 10.
All know they are strong efficient offenses. They find out just how strong and how efficient on the afternoons that they play the Ravens.
