The Eagles have officially brought back wide receiver
Hank Baskett
, signing the 27-year-old to a one-year deal. Terms of the deal are undisclosed.
Baskett, 27, spent the majority of the 2009 season with the Indianapolis Colts after he was released by the Eagles on September 15. He appeared in 12 regular season games (11 with Colts, one with Eagles) and also played in all three playoff games for the Colts, including the Super Bowl.
"I'm glad we had a chance to get Hank back in Philadelphia," said head coach Andy Reid. "Not only has he proven himself to be a productive receiver, but he also does a solid job on special teams. He's a team player and his main focus has and always will be on helping his team win games. On top of all that, he's a quality person."
Added general manager Howie Roseman, "Hank adds solid depth to our wide receiving group, plus is a productive special teams player. He is a good teammate and obviously is a positive influence in the locker room and is a high-character person. We're excited about welcoming he and his family back to the Eagles."
Baskett owns three of the top ten longest plays in Eagles history (90, 89 and 87 yard touchdowns). In 2006, he became the second rookie in NFL history to post two touchdown catches of 85-plus yards (89 and 87) in the same season Baskett is also a proven performer on special teams, garnering the Eagles special teams MVP in 2007 after leading the team that year with 277 special teams production points. In his four-year career, he has ammassed 76 catches for 1,080 yards (14.2 yards per catch).

I get the signing, its a security blanket depth signin,... starters are already set....he knows the system, he can play special teams, block some, is a depth guy with experience... fine I can be talked into going along with that, but you have to wonder how any WR on the Colts with Peyton Manning only has 4 receptions in 11 games. You don't even have to get open with Manning throwing, just turn around and the ball is already stuck on your jersey. Does he really have any speed, route running skills left? Was his special team play as a gunner? really that great? Was that the real reason with the injuries at gunner last year?

Thanks taracave, we are all now dumber from your atrocious spelling and well thought out comments. I will go out of my way now to not read your "had d success d he had..." and "he b a nice complement 2 d young buck..." It is painful, and i want my 20 seconds back when I read your moronic posts.

I'm glad Baskett is back. Owning 3 of the top 10 plays in Eagles history says something about him. Now, they just have to use him more as a WR. They have to be smart and design plays for him. I also like his size (6'4), that's a good target in the red zone.

i'm so sick n tired of hearing about Edwards, d only reason he was sucesful
last year was cuz Jared Allen had double cover all d time.pleeeeeeeease
stop it plp hes not d answer.PERIOD
But yo i heard Merion(D BARBERIAN)may
b available n we all know his a beast
he could b a nice complement 2 d young
buck McCoy.I realy like d kid and i think he will go far here in PHILLY.

taracave@comcas 03/12/10 2:52 pm ET |
Well Denny5 i think d bringing Edwards
here wouldn't change much cuz if u check his stats 4 last year they r the same as Jaqua Parker and Edwards
had d sucess d he had last year cuz Jared Allen was double cover all d time.Lets b realistic they need 2 go 2
d draft n get d best LDE even if they have 2 trade up, i know 4 a fact d EAGLES think they solve d problem at FS but they haven't.The dumest think d my team did was leting go B-Dawkins,
he went 2 d Broncos n wat a year he had.Anyway i smell a 8-8 next year.

We didn't sign Baskett to be a star. He is the fifth wide receiver and he is going to play special teams. What we need is simple: A DE, LB, DB, Veteran RB, and one or two OL players. Maybe people haven't read this is one of the worse free agents crops if not the worse ever. We're not gonna get a lot of impact players out of this group. Hopefully we get Edwards than we can draft a stud LB.

Oper I agree....no room for V Jackson with what we have.....unless Chargers were willing to trade him for Maclin.....Fat chance! And by what I saw of Maclin already, I hope my assessment of him is accurate....or even somewhat close. Yes, defense should be our main focus

operagost 03/12/10 12:51 pm ET |
Excuse me, geniuses, but don't we already have two starting wideouts: one a Pro-Bowler, the other a first-round pick who just had the best rookie WR season since... since the Pro-Bowler I just mentioned? Where would Vincent Jackson play? Are we just trying to corner the market on players named Jackson here? Our dept on WR is-- wait for it-- FINE. We need a good veteran or high pick at DE and draft picks at LB, OL, and DB.

Tara dont stress cause I believe the big spending you want will happen when we land Edwards. I think the FO is ready to overspend if needed on a guy like that. Another Stud Safety would be good also but I just dont know if one will be available in FA or trade. As far as blue-collar guys you need them just as much as you do the premier weapons. Every star player is surrounded by tough workers doing the unnoticed dirty work. Im tellin you, we have way more star players with explosive skillsets than the girls do. Talent is not our problem....Collectively, we were just wimps last year. That is the first time in about 10 years I felt that way about our team....more than enough talent but lack of toughness

taracave@comcas 03/12/10 12:31 pm ET |
Well Denny5 a tell u wat.Keep signing
blue collar guys wit out talent n c where it takes u.OH hold on i can answer dat 4 u,NO WHERE.EAGLES need 2 stop been so damn chip n spend some real $ on some real players (like playmakers) i should say, but wat d hell all i am is a disappointed fan.How bout if we d fans release d front office from theyr duties. HA,HA
|
taracave@comcas 03/12/10 12:07 pm ET |
Luv EAGLES but d truth of d matter is d we gonna b worst den d redskins next year ,gonna get beat by d cowgirls like last year n who knows d giants might enter d sweepstake on how 2 clinic d EAGLES. I don't know how we haven't call d Giants bout osumenyore or how ever he's last name is spell, watever.Din't he sack (SORRY
Mcnabb) like (6) times by he's self a couple of years ago.Do me a favor look into that pls.

come on tomjr151, in order to get vincent jackson we have to spend $$$$. We'll just continue signing a bunch of bums who we can get at a cheap price, might as well start getting used to a first round exit in the playoffs. Although with our schedule next year we may not even make the playoffs, maybe 8-8. We need to get our D back to what it used to be. Signing scrubs like baskett isn't helping our team at all. Big time players make big time plays, scrubs choke in the spotlight. Remember the onside kick in the super bowl? Baskett does, cause it bounced right off his facemask. GO PHILLIES!!!

DENNY5 03/12/10 11:59 am ET |
Tara as much as it pains me to say it....we lost to the 'Girls cause we just werent tough enough. Look at what we are doing now, bringing in tough blue-collar players to surround our playmakers (which we have plenty of). You watch, we're gonna make a big push for Ray Edwards to bring in some more size and attitude. The 'girls oline just overpowered us last year.....not gonna happen again. I also bet we draft a big, physical LB this time.....praying for Weatherspoon. And if Stew can come back healthy.....cant wait to bust some Cowgirl mouth this year!!!
|
taracave@comcas 03/12/10 11:57 am ET |
I hear u Tom jr, c d problem wit d eagles is d they r in fact chip.Keep
signing chumps and u will never u hear me never WIN A SUPER BOWL.Is d truth.
|
joshua.mease@... 03/12/10 11:48 am ET |
phillyfan I hear you I am not sold on the LB's either, we absolutly need an upgrade, and we don't know if Bradly can return at full strength either.
|
taracave@comcas 03/12/10 11:47 am ET |
Y'all most b living on anothr planet. If I'm not mistaken we lost 2 d cowgirls last season (3) times super embarresment, n d best we can do is bring (3) chumps instead of (3) champs, how about
help for T Cole n I'm not saying sing another chump I mean bring somebody solid n stop been so chip, at the end u win a SB n after that u can generate more $ cuz d team has won d SB. THAAAAAAAAAAAANX.

We brought Hank back to get better "dirty work" production with blocking and special teams play. We have more than enough speedy skill players and need to surround them w/ more size and physical play. Hank adds blocking. Fargas would add more attitude in the backfield. Jackson (new CB/S) is a hrd hitter and sound tackler. Those are the things we were missing last year when we got our A$$es handed to us and looked like a bunch of wusses
|
tomjr151@... 03/12/10 11:37 am ET |
why the hell did we sign him we shold have got vincent jackson
|
phillyfan202123 03/12/10 11:36 am ET |
for our defensive to go up a notch joshua we need youth. The draft will be huge for us. I honestly feel we should take a linebacker first but everyone is projecting a DE. Sorry but im not sold on having jordan and gocong/fokou. Not a solid group.
|
phillyfan202123 03/12/10 11:27 am ET |
Damn leroy!!! i was just about to type that..we added depth to our WR and cut the dead weight in brown, now i think we should allow curtis one more year because of his potential. And sign Fargas!! Hell be such a nice change of pace and will be the guy to help us shove it down dallas's throat and bring the aggressiveness back! Slowly but surely were moving in the right direction. I think we need to bolster the linebackers and DE in the draft and i like our position. Free safety still is a question but hopefully jackson stays healthy.

joshua.mease@... 03/12/10 11:24 am ET |
Nice to see Hank back. He gave us some options when he was here, don't know if he makes the 53 this year. Hard to believe we finally got a solid receiving core. If the D can just take it up another notch or two we may get the parade this year!
|
leroygriffiths@... 03/12/10 11:22 am ET |
Great move! Now dump Curtis today. And please, don't let Fargas leave Philly without a 3 year deal!

johnburger@... 03/12/10 11:17 am ET |
YESSSSS!! Welcome back Hank!!!
