Report: DB Jackson To Visit Eagles
The Eagles are reportedly set to host their first free agent this week as they welcome former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Marlin Jackson.
It is unknown whether the Eagles plan to look at Jackson as a cornerback or a safety. He has started 24 career games at cornerback, six at free safety and two at strong safety. He can play cornerback on both the right and left sides.
Jackson was supposed to be a restricted free agent this off-season, but he was not tendered a one-year deal by the Colts and is free to sign with any other team. Before he visits with the Eagles, which is expected to be on Tuesday, Jackson is going to meet with the Ravens in Baltimore.
Originally a first-round draft pick of the Colts (29th overall) in 2005, Jackson would bring some size (6-0, 196 pounds) and experience to the position. He has four career interceptions, but has had each of the last two seasons cut short due to knee injuries. He was named the Colts' Ed Block Courage Award winner this past season.
The biggest highlight of Jackson's career came when he intercepted New England's Tom Brady in the final minute to seal the AFC Championship in the 2006 season.

what is all this talk about our CB's we have one of the best duo's but depth is needed look what happen hanson got suspended and brown went down with a hamstring injury and hobbs was gone we had no depth and no quality player to go alongside samuel so depth is needed

listen, how do you say we never spend money. the money we spent on samuels gives us one if not the best cb duos ic the league. the eagles have two problems on D. The lack of pass rush, with this problem we have to send extra guys then get beat on coverage, and the biggest most underrated problem is the lack of an emotional leader on D. Look what happen when Dawk left. And when kearse and trotter lost a few steps

as usual the penny pinchin eagles are only looking for bargain basement players...Finally a pro bowl caliber linebacker on the roster at a position of need and is let out of the building with no compensation not even a chance for a compensitory pick. Fortune favors the brave, you have to be willing to risk it all to get it all.... CHANGE SWWOOPS JERSEY TO #1,, RITE NOW HIS JERSEY RESEMBLES HOW MANY SUPER BOWLS WE HAVE 00.

Thus far I am very dissapointed with the Eagles activity in the free agent market. Picking up another player such as Jackson with knee problems (dont get it) As far as Atogwe is he that good? His production on paper looks comparable to Sean Jones..I cant say I have seen Atogwe play & if he is so good why wouldnt the porous Rams tender him higher or offer him a longer term contract? Rebuilding?

Why are we trying to get washed up players that are hurt and just aren't gonna do us any good. There are a slew of players that we should be going after but we aren't. We are so weak rigth now compared the div. I just dont get what they are trying to do. Get rid of all our good players. If they trade sheldon brown I am no longer gonna be an eagle fan. This is the best tandem in league. We need a player that people just fear. I sound like a broken record when I say Brian Dawkins name. People did not like the fact he was in the backfield. I want a player that wants to tackle and make hard hits. We need a force on D and if we dont have one, FIND ONE JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When has it ever been a bad move to add a quality CB? Name a team where its really hurt them.

Have faith in Jauron. Its likely his call to bring this guy in.

Everyone is talking about the draft likes its our answer to our holes on defense. Do you guys not remember the last 10 years. Since Reid has been here rookies NEVER make and impact in this defense. If they do end up helping this team it usually doesnt happen till the end of the season which is to late. If you go through all the rookies Andy Reid has drafted only Mike Patterson played at a level that we would need rookies to come in and play this year. Trent Cole did ok but not great. Gaither had a couple of decent games in the middle of the season but bad down the strech. Bradley only helped in the last few games after Spikes got injured. You all need to understand that in the Eagles defense we cant count on rookies to help.

They finally go after a free agent the only problem is we dont need him. We have 4 quality cbs in Samuels Brown Hanson and Ells. There's only a few reason why I could imagine them bringing him in.1) they are planning to move Sheldon to safety and need to replace him at cb. 2) They are planning to use him at safety.3) They are planning to trade one of their corners and need a replacement. I just dont get why bring him in to play safety or move Sheldon to safety when Ryan Clark is on the market. I know he is visitng the Dolphins but the Eagles could of got him if they tried. If they arent working on something big that no one knows about its kind of hard to believe they are doing everything they can to make this team better.

This has been a horrible off season no doubt so far. Jus a opinion i do lik the part about gettin Atogwe. But y not look at Darren Sharper? I mean yea he is a little old but i mean he had 9 picks helped lead the Saints to a bowl i mean y not give him a shot?

You kiddin' me?! We knew what we needed going into FA, didn't make any aggressive moves and got beat out AGAIN when it comes to QUALITY talent (Oh that's right Peppers to old for the money, Dansby we didn't need, D. Robinson to much money, Rolle is overrated; you tellin' me we couldn't land ONE of these players).....had an injury prone season last year so we start things off by looking at INJURED PLAYERS?!..........GO FIGURE!

This offseason have been a total joke so far....at least we have the Phils to root for! GO PHILLIES!

It makes sense that the Eags are interested in Jackson. They love guys who are plagued by knee injuries. I am actually surprised that they didn't sign Kampman. He is fresh off a knee surgery. He sounded like a perfect fit for this team.

rohash@... 03/07/10 9:28 pm ET |
Don't bring in another player who is injury prone. Shoulda learned that lesson last year.

O.J. Atogwe the day we get him is the day i quit questioning the front office but since we are talking about hte front office that will never happen this guy is great and is just sitting there PICK HIM UP MAKE THIS D GREAT

jamie17.. you're finally, somebody who agrees w/ me regarding CB depth/competition so we can field the best team possible!!!
|
jiasiello@... 03/07/10 8:55 pm ET |
I'm still trying to figure out what the Eagles are doing. They need to be jumping on players. Their team is going to be so young next year you can't expect a great season. They need some vets in the defense.
|
jamie17 03/07/10 8:46 pm ET |
This is great, I didn't even know Jackson was available. He's better than Antrel Rolle. If we get him, I would regain all my faith in the Front Office that I've lost in the week since hearing about the two guys we cut and all of the FA's that we missed out on.
|
jamie17 03/07/10 8:44 pm ET |
To the guy that criticized this because of the depth we have at CB: You can never have too many corners, and one of our corners, including Marlin Jackson can potentially play FS. I think Sheldon Brown would make a great safety if he learned the position.
|
nathan_rosenauer90@... 03/07/10 8:43 pm ET |
DE i love the thought of derrick morgan here he is under rated but he is good he plays like trent cole and is just good enought to start at left de this year and he is great against the run and the best pass rusher that i have seen in a while for his size
|
EagleBlueDon 03/07/10 8:43 pm ET |
:My biggest question...why isn't O.J. Atogwe signed to a long-term deal by us yet? He is the definition of a sitting duck, waiting to become an EAGLE.
|
andrew_short69@... 03/07/10 8:31 pm ET |
i worry about marlin jackson cuz of things like pinkston, and lj smith, still having shaun andrews, they like to kid themselve on people will potential and no heart, while there people with more potential and more heart sitting behind them. Why is curtis still on the roster? do they honestly think he cud contribute if a few guys went down, i say hell no.
|
andrew_short69@... 03/07/10 8:27 pm ET |
i hate to say this but in my opinion dummy gary cobb has the best mock ive seen so far and he has the earl thomas slipping and the ealges taking him, and remember safties dont usually get drafted very high, and earl thomas wasnt great against the run. Eric berry will most likely go top 20.
|
kfiloon7@... 03/07/10 8:26 pm ET |
Does anyone know how good Ellis Hobbs really is? If he is as good as a first round tender, then would it not make sense to move Sheldon Brown to a Saftey spot? He obviously can cover, he tackles well and has made some big hits!
