WR Curtis Eyes Return For Buccaneers Game

October 1, 2009 | Last Updated: 10/1/09 2:09 PM ET | Comments (14)

The bye week is early for the Eagles this season, but it came at the perfect time for a handful of Eagles. Even though he is at the NovaCare Complex rehabbing this week, wide receiver Kevin Curtis wants to heal the knee injury that kept him out of the Week 3 win over Kansas City and get back on the field for the Buccaneers game on Oct. 11.

"Definitely, I'm going to do whatever I can to get on the field sooner than later," Curtis said. "That's the plan."

First-round pick Jeremy Maclin caught four passes for 33 yards, which included an impressive tip-toe grab along the sideline, in Curtis' stead as the Eagles whomped the Chiefs 34-14. As Dave Spadaro reported earlier this week, Maclin played all three wide receiver positions – X (split end),Y (slot) and Z (flanker) - which is impressive for a rookie. With Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook also sidelined, the Eagles amassed 420 yards of total offense and quarterback Kevin Kolb was the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week.

"It was really big for us as an offensive unit," said Curtis, who has five catches for 70 yards this year. "We've had some glimpses through this year of doing things right. We haven't really put together a whole game like we did Sunday. It was good to see that. It's something that we can build off of and hopefully just get better and better as the season goes on."

Maclin's emergence further proves the depth of the wide receiver corps.

"I think we're definitely extremely deep. We have guys like Reggie (Brown) and (Brandon) Gibson, who some weeks aren't dressing," Curtis said. "They're incredible receivers. It's good to have that depth. It's only going to help us out."

Everybody is talking about how McNabb and Westbrook and Curtis are gonna be back for the Bucs game. But does anybody know if Herremans is gonna be ready to go. And also, what's up with Stacy Andrews, I know he was a little banged up in Week 2 so they started Jean-Gilles. But is he gonna come back as the starting left guard when he's healthy or did he lose his job to Max.

I do feel kinda bad for bashing curtis though. He made a lot of plays in the championship game. So if he eliminates the drops and continues to be griddy then i dont mind him being a veteran number 2 for the rest of the season. IF he stops dropping balls though!

I agree Curtis is out, the only upside to him when they signed mr fumbles which is what he was for the rams, was that he is one of the 10 fastest 40's in nfl history with a 4.21 40 yrd dash, i saw that speed the first year he was here, that speed is gone. Curtis gets thrown to about 6 or times a game n catches 2 or 3 of them, personally i see a whole lot of nothing when hes thrown to and even worse than his hands is his attempt at getting to the ball. He never leaps or dives or makes and effort at all to get to get the ball so why should he bother catching it. Put maclin or reggie in.

True we need to get mr. drops on the sidelines and let our young guys develop. I'm glad kevin kolb is playing nice because what we saw sunday against the chiefs is going to be our starts in 2 - 3 years. Maclin seems to be learning fast and unfortunatly with those who didnt know Danny Amendola got signed to the Rams =[ and hes now returning kicks. I loved that guy in the preseason he was like a wes welker. I say we should have kept him and kept curtis out! But hank baskett did do well i guess he just wasnt up to par with the other guys. Eagles look awesome i hope sheldon stays happy!

Curtis has had his oppurtunities and he hasn't grasped them very well.Everytime I see him wide open with a straight shot into the end zone he drops the ball.I mean who does he think he is Reggie Brown?Maclin needs to be there, Gibson should be there.I would even like to see Danny Amendola from their practice squad there before Kevin Curtis. The last game I saw him do anything good was 2 years ago in the Detroit romp and let's be honest.I coulda scored a touchdown against Detroit that year!

You guys think your sick of curtis..well let me tell you!! I'm so tired of them throwing this guy the ball deep and never seeing him have any seperation on any corners in the league. They talk about how fast he is and I have yet to see it! Put him on the bench where he belongs and get Maklin out there starting NOW Reid! Plus curtis is prone for a big drop every 2-3 games...terrible!

I agree too. Maclin should get more time. And also Brandon Gibson. And if Westy ain't ready yet don't rush him back. Let McCoy and Buckley carry the load.

I am sick of this Kevin Curtis Tomfoolery. (I am trying to cut back on my cursing) He is fourth WR who was made a starter by a team with a lackadasical approach to WR. DJack is almost a superstar. Lets get Macklin involved sooner.
