Eagles Sign QB Vick To One-Year Deal

The Eagles announced on Thursday night that have signed QB Michael Vick to a one-year contract.

Drafted with the first overall selection in the 2001 draft by Atlanta, Vick spent six seasons with the Falcons and last played on 12/31/06 at Philadelphia. A three-time Pro Bowler, the 29-year-old Vick rushed for 1,039 yards in 2006, the most by a quarterback in a single season in NFL history. His 8.45 yards per carry average that year also is an NFL record.

New Eagles QB Michael Vick

A multi-dimensional threat at quarterback in both the pass and run game, Vick became the first quarterback in NFL annals to pass for over 250 yards (252) and rush for over 100 yards (115) in the same game (10/31/04 at Denver). His eight career 100-yard rushing games are the most by a quarterback in NFL history and his 3,859 career rushing yards ranks third all time behind Randall Cunningham (4,928) and Steve Young (4,239).

Vick was named to the Pro Bowl in his first season as a full-time starter in 2002, after amassing 3,713 total yards (2,936 passing, 777 rushing) and 24 total touchdowns (16 passing, 8 rushing). He led the Falcons to a 27-7 upset victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card game that season, ending the Packers undefeated playoff record at Lambeau Field.

For his career, Vick appeared in 74 regular season games (67 starts) from 2001-06, completing 930 of 1,730 passes for 11,505 yards and 71 touchdowns, while rushing for 3,859 yards and 21 touchdowns. He is 2-2 as a starter in the playoffs with both losses coming at the hands of the Eagles.

A two-year letterman at Virginia Tech, Vick led the NCAA in passing efficiency with a 180.9 rating as a freshman in 1999. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting that year behind Ron Dayne and Joe Hamilton.

The Newport News, VA, native attended Warwick High School, passing for 4,846 yards and 43 touchdowns, while also adding 1,048 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground.

This is what the reinstate-Michael-Vick fans say: "Hi, I love watching a certain man (named Michael Vick) kick a football around so much I don't care if he tortured dogs and committed slow, disgusting depraved crimes of violence against them. I just want to sit down, have lots of beers, and watch the mentally disturbed, sadist, psycho-football player get millions of dollars as a reward. Who cares about the dog torture?! Wha? Come on everybody! Feel good! Woohoo, let the games begin". I'm sorry for y'all...Especially the gross folks that decided to let the monster on the team...

I read alot of the comments posted here, for the one who thinks that Vick is the man you dont know what a man is, a person who intentionally kills a defensles animal with his bare hands should not be in the position where kids think he is a hero or is viewed as role model, as for those who has forgiven him you better hope that he does not kill one of your relatives because if its easy to kill a defensless being why not a human.

This is OUTRAGEOUS! THE NFL ORGANIZATION is to blame. What makes me really sick is the media keeps saying its about him being a convicted felon! f*%! That! And the coach talking about how could identify with Vick because of his sons! IS he out of his mind? Michael Vick did not get caught with a little POT! Michael Vick got a sick thrill and of abusing animals and at times MURDER! I think the message the coach is sending to his sons, the community at large, and mostly the youth of America is a scary one! And when you hear Vick speak, there is not an ounce of remorse in his voice! EVERYONE NEEDS TO CONTACT THE NFL! or he will eventually just get picked up by another team! HE NEEDS TO BE BANNED FROM PLAYING AGAIN!

I can't help but ask...what the heck were you thinking? Vick? Seriously? I don't care how good a quarterback he is; no one is *that* good. You can't possibly be so desperate for a quarterback that you had to sign Vick. I believe in second chances. I believe people should be forgiven for their past mistakes. (Even if this particular mistake is very difficult to forgive.) But do you really think he deserves to make millions of dollars right after he got out of prison for torturing all of those dogs? Maybe he has changed. Maybe he has learned from his mistakes. But how do you know? Have you even considered the kind of backlash you're going to receive as a result of this?

I'll never understand how the eagles could hire Vick. This guy commits the most atrocious crimes against these poor defenseless animals and has done absolutely NOTHING to repay the community. I am DONE with the eagles. I cannot support a team that has such low standards as to bring this disgusting criminal on their team. You people that support Vick don’t know what he's done. Read up on it. If it doesn't make you sick then there is something wrong with you. He tortured these animals. Drowning, electrocution, pulling the teeth out of dogs so they would be good practice for the other dogs and couldn't fight back. My God, it's horrid. He is not someone I want to support or ever watch play the game of football. He should be banned for life. This is not a steroids violation or DUI. This is TORTURE to defenseless animals. Think about how many fans you're losing that aren't even speaking up? There are tons of them. This is a BAD move!

Terry you hit the nail on the head. We paid way too much for Vick, nobody realy wanted him (first sign) so we probably could have got him much cheaper. I don't think (maybe just hoping) He isn't here to be a QB, not the guy to replace Mcnabb. He's what 3 years to the younger, thats just retarded. But trying to look on the bright side I'm thinking we might be looking at the wildcat coming to philly. Wich would be sick. Mcnabb can't run like he used to but is still a threat, Jackson doing his thing, Kurtis still a great #2, Westbrook in the backfield, and then Vick wherever he lines up... maybe sub as a TE or FB in situations. That is an awful lot for a defence to think about let alone try to defend.

Ok, what is the deal, we did not have enough problems with T.Owens 'Mr. Non-Team Player', now let's bring another superstar with major ego problems. Are there no rookie quarterbacks available to bring along and train from the ground up. Man, I love football and am a diehard eagles fan, but what in the wide wide world of sports is the going on? Thank goodness for Westbrook and Mcnabb. I have never ever seen Brian Westbrook do all that nonsensical celebrating and patting himself on the back when he makes a touchdown 'which he often does' or an awesome run, he just goes back and get's ready to go to work on the next play. Wow, could we use more of that in professional sports! Even Brian Dawkins who was my favorite, and who also was an absolute maniac on the field, was still the ultimate team player and leader. Is this not considered a red flag when you pay over a million dollars for a player who will not likely even play until week 6 of the regular season, if then? "Here's your sign!"

This decision is insane. Vick does not belong playing football he is a damaging example for our youth who really need a DECENT man to look up to not some pathetic vicious loose cannon who is nothing but a disturbed individual who should remain locked up and the key thrown away. He is nothing but an animal abuser. Shameful. He deserves no chances. He is a violent man, no doubt about it. I feel sorry for any player who has to be next to him. He is nothing but a HUGE liability. Wake up. Dump him.

Shame on the Eagles for signing Michael Vick. He is a sadistic person incapable of showing remorse because he has no conscience! There is definitely something wrong with someone who could do those horrible things to the dogs who did please him. Some role model fo kids! Hope some defensive lineman knocks him on his a**.

Yea we all know what Vick did was wrong. I was pre-med student who got busted for pot and now can't work a even close to decent job. There's something wrong with a person (Vick) who can do that to an animal and you want him on our team?? Why don't we just hire his little brother while were at it? I wanna see him work at a dog kennel (which I did for two years) for a while before I ever forgive him or the Eagles for taking him...WHAT HAS HE GIVEN BACK TO THE COMMUNITY??? Even I went and planted trees in Camden for my mistakes which, 5 years later I see no hope for its grasps release

we all know what vick did was wrong but the man needs to be forgiven. we are to forgive if we want to be forgiven! I believe that nobody posting has honestly say they are perfect and have done nothing wrong. for those of you saying he is a poor excuse for a human being you should be ashamed. before you speak so lowly of vick, ask yourself this. would you be saying the same things about vick if he was a member of your family? i wouldn't think so. so i encourage all of you having a hard time dealing with the signing of micheal vick to the eagles to forgive and give him the support you would give to someone you love and care about!

I'm appalled. Michael Vick says he has paid his debt to society. Has he paid his debt to the dogs who died because of his greed? There is an aspect of society that seems to think "it's only a dog". By hiring Vick you are validating that attitude. Dogs are not just possessions. They live, breathe, bleed when injured, feel pain. Nobody will ever convince me that a few months in jail has changed Michael Vick's attitude. I don't think I can hear one more person say "he made a mistake". No he didn't. He did it on PURPOSE. His big mistake was getting caught. I am so disappointed in the Philadelphia team. I now think so much less of the Eagles...and everybody who encouraged them to hire VIck. That may mean little or nothing to you, but I'm not the only one. There are many of us out there who will never again watch an Eagles' game.

In that case, you cannot claim to be any kind of HUMAN BEING lehmama1! Everybody deserves a second chance and you have no idea whether this man has changed or not. You're not perfect, and I'm pretty sure there came a time in your life when you needed a second chance. You dont have the capacity to judge him or anyone else for that matter.

I am deeply saddened that the NFL has allowed Vick to return at all. Pete Rose was banned for life from baseball for a far less serious offense. I am especially sorry that the Eagles have signed him. SHAME ON YOU NFL! SHAME ON YOU EAGLES. Alhtough a lifetime football fan, and a lifelong Eagle fan, I love animals more. Dog fighting is one of the most gruesome, bloody, and deeply disburbing acts that people participate in. It is not for the faint hearted. People who enjoy this kind of blood letting don't just change their tastes, no more than pedophiles or predators change. MICHAEL VICK is a disgrace to any uniform and the NFL is a DISGRACE for allowing him to return. SHAME ON YOU! With MICHAEL VICK in ANY UNIFORM THE NFL CAN NOT CLAIM TO BE ANY KIND OF ROLE MODEL.

TO EVERYONE OUT THERE WHO HAS NEVER MADE A MISTAKE IN LIFE GOOD FOR YOU! FOR THE OTHER 99% OF US WHO HAVE BACK UP HATERS! MICHAEL VICK IS THE MAN! I DON'T LIKE WHAT HE DID BECAUSE I LOVE DOG'S, BUT I LIKE VICK! HATERS ARE ENTITLED TO THERE OPINIONS, JUST LIKE EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO A SECOND CHANCE. I KNOW THAT IF THE ROLES WERE REVERSED ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE HATIN ON VICK WOULD BE DOING THE SAME THING HE IS, GETTIG BACK TO HIS PASSION, AND BEING GRATEFUL IT HAPPENED SO SOON. LEAVE THIS MAN ALONE! IF HE DOES IT AGAIN THEN STICK IT TO HIM. UNTIL THEN ZIP THE LIP & KNOW YOUR ROLE JABRONIS! -TWAMP DOG-

Ok, some of us are upset about Vick signing who did 2 years for his crimes what the American judicial system felt was fair. You guys are entitled to your opinion and have the rights to speak that opinion. However Stallworth only did 30 days for killing a fellow human being and you are worried about Vick. Now I'm proud I enlisted in our services so we have the right to voice our opinions. So, is Vick the perfect role model for a child no. Is he the perfect example of teaching to a kid of doing wrong and trying to make up for your mistake. That will be for him to show us. Now any of you newly required ex Eagle fans with tickets. i'll gladly take them off your hands

All the team cares about is getting money!! Let's see if Vick is really sorry for his'actions' killing, betting, and being a complete jerk for how long. Now he says he's changed. No he just needs to get back money because he lost everything right fully so. Let's see if he tries to do right by humane societies and young kids to get the message out how wrong it was how he was living. I also wonder if the same'crew' he was hanging out with and partying with are reformed. To many players getting away with booze, drugs, and other abuses and the league not being tougher! 'The love of the game' went away a long time ago when I enjoyed watching clean athletes who were good family men with my dad and grandpa! Shame on the NFL and Shame on the Eagles for letting Vick walk right back in.

A TRUE EAGLES FAN WOULD STICK BY THIS TEAM NO MATTER WHAT... IM NOT ABANDONING THE TEAM I'VE LOVED MY ENTIRE LIFE OVER ONE PLAYER... yes, what vick did was flat out sick. But the man has spent the last 2 years in jail and has completed a ton of community service with the Human Society; to the point that the Humane Society actually endorses the NFL to re-instate him. FOR THAT REASON, he deserves a second chance. TO ALL OF YOU ABANDONING THE EAGLES OVER THIS, THAT MAKES ME SICK (not the eagles signing vick) GO CHEER FOR THE COWGIRLS, YOURE NOT TRUE FANS ANYWAY.... TRUE EAGLES FANS DONT LET ONE PLAYER BLIND THEM OF DECADES OF EAGLES TRADITION AND LEGENDARY PLAYERS SUCH AS BRIAN DAWKINS and REGGIE WHITE... GO AHEAD TURN YOUR BACK ON EAGLE NATION, WE DONT WANT YOU ANYWAY

was an eagles fan all my life not any more. look at Pete Ross all he did was gamble banned for life from baseball. He hurt no one but himself. Next look at all the players in trouble for using drugs, again hurting no one but themselves. none of these players hurt another living thing but are ruined almost for life. This vick monster really harmed living things, not just himself and we are supposed to say " thats ok baby you paid your debt all is forgiven" well not me or my family we do not want young people looking up to that kind of "so called" person now or ever. Restore Pete Rose to baseball where he belongs. Not this monster to any sport. I really used to love the eagles now I will not even look at them any more Rita
