Head Coach Andy Reid

August 3, 2009 | Last Updated: 8/3/09 6:16 PM ET | Comments (10)

Opening Remarks: "We won't talk about injuries today. Some of your colleagues here decided that they would go to the players and/or other personnel here and ask about injuries. I made a pact with you guys when I first got here that I would disclose to you the injuries that you just stay away from the players, stay away from other personnel in the organization and I would take care of you with that. That part was breached and so we'll get on with the Flight Night! part of things. Flight Night was a good experience, I thought for, the players, for the fans, for the coaches. I thought we got good work in that was important. And then, this morning the guys were able to get a lift in and do some work there and then the 10/10/10 practice."

On why he is not speaking to any media members about injuries when some media members did not talk to any players and/or personnel about injuries: "That's the way it works. Peer pressure is the best pressure there is. You can work it out with your colleagues."

On whether he has anything to say regarding linebacker Stewart Bradley: "He did not practice today."

On who would be the starting middle linebacker if Bradley was unable to play: "You've got two guys that obviously can do a good job there with (LB Joe) Mays and (LB) Omar (Gaither). So, we'll look at that as we go down the road here."

On Mays as a player: "Joe's done a good job. He did a good job last night. He's done a good job throughout the camp. He had a good camp when he came in here last year. So, we'll just see how he progresses here throughout the preseason. I think people have confidence in him that he can play, both the players around him and the coaches."

On whether Mays is a more natural middle LB than Gaither: "I think both of them are effective and can be effective. But, Omar's competing at that WILL linebacker spot right now and will take some reps at the middle as he's been doing."

On when he will disclose more information regarding injuries: "When I decide that people can abide by the rules I'll do that."

On how he looks to ease CB Asante Samuel back into the defense: "This was a good period for him to come back in, a 10/10/10 where he can test that thing a little bit and we'll just keep track. We'll see how he does after this practice here and how he's feeling."

On whether he thinks about moving away from hitting during preseason: "No, that really wasn't the situation yesterday. There was just no way around it."

On why he likes hitting so much: "It's a part of the game. Injuries take place in the game. It happens all around the game, things happen."

On whether he has talked to his staff about leaks to the media: "I'm looking into that part and I've actually been involved with the other part."

On which part he has been involved with: "On the media part."

On whether the field was a factor in Bradley injuring himself last night: "No, I think the field was fine. (Director of grounds) Tony Leonard does a great job with it."

I agree with Beardsroost. To quote..."If you dare to claim to be an Eagles' fan, you're dumb on top of stupid, steadying yourself over idiocy"

Hello, acalvo01?????! How dumb are you????? Since when are coaches on demand to supply info to your insuperior self? The Media FOLLLOWS NFL team coaches. Said Media does not DICTATE them. Coach decides what's leaked & what's not. If you dare to claim to be an Eagles' fan, you're dumb on top of stupid, steadying yourself over idiocy. Reid absolutely gets to declare what's reportable, or not, to the Media, BECAUSE, STUPID, our injury reports deem what's getting played on upcoming rosters....get a grip on your 19" non-LCD. Learn Football, in all its facets, then come back & comment on how we roll~ FLY Eagles FLY

This right here is why we're still without a Super Bowl ring.Does it really matter if the media talks to players/personnel? if so,then take it out on the PLAYERS,not the media. The media doesn't work for Andy Reid(Well Dave Spadaro and Eagles guys do) or any other Philadelphia Eagle authority. The players absolutely work for Andy Reid,so that's who you take it out on. All this does is prove how immature our head coach is acting. The "I'm not gonna give you guys injury news anymore, because I don't have to" mentality is just gonna bite the team and the fans, and as pretty soon,Reid's gonna be forced to give up the news anyway due to league regulations. So go on coach, keep the"It's my ball and I'm going home" mentality, while the media gets fed up,and starts pounding on the team as a whole.Did you forget the lessons learned from the Dallas Cowboys and the way T.O. and others were dogging the media last season? Didn't work out too well for them did it????

glackattack birdcrazy wasnt saying AR is the boss of the media, but he is the boss of the players and coaching staff. If the medias boss' have them go and breach an agreement between AR and themselves by seeking inside information before it is released than AR has every right to cut them off. For those that say his actions will only hurt us fans is wrong because I'm not hurting at all. Bradley either plays or he doesn't. Ill b there cheering on Sundays!

Reid has every reason, and authority, to block the Media from sensationalizing morsels retrieved from outside the lines he drew. He said, "Don't talk to my peeps, any of 'em." Then some Schmo thought they were getting a leg up....and broke the deal he made with them. So, yeah, the Media absolutely deserves the tight-lipped-ness they're getting. Real fans will respect his Coaching/Managerial strategies. Everyone else will whine. Fly Eagles Fly!

AR has an obligation to his team and his organization. If that means putting restraints on the media, than that is what it means. The fans aren't suffering one bit. This is simply a case of one or a few bad writers (I refuse to call them journalists) who just think that their desires are more important than anything else... I agree whole heartedly!

I understand that AR is ticked off but I do think he's acting a little immature. It's not like all of the media "breached" his rules. Remeber the saying "One bad apple...."? In the end the fans who support this team are the ones being hurt by his stubbornness. The media will do whatever their "bosses" tell them to. Grow up big guy...

birdcrazy thats not a very good argument...the reason being is because Andy Reid is not the boss of the media members...their bosses want them to get the big story as soon as possible by any means possible. So yes, if you go spread your bosses top secrets, u wont last long...but once again, Andy is not their boss. The media doesnt work for the Eagles.

Hi Mr. Reid, I can understand why would not want the media asking players and coaches about injuries and making a pact was perhaps an idea to prevent that from happening. However, the reality is it didn't work and your idea to not talk about injuries now to somehow scold the media is a real disservice to your fan base. If you want to penalize them then do it - kick all the bums out of camp entirely and report the news on your website directly. Tell the media they can read your website. Thanks
