'09 Preseason Schedule Finalized

March 30, 2009 | Last Updated: 4/21/09 9:59 AM ET | Comments (11)
By: BOB KENT

The schedule is out. The preseason one, that is. And it is an attractive one. The Thursday, Aug. 20 game at Indianapolis is a national broadcast, with the other three games on the Eagles Television Network.

The Eagles-Colts game is part of the second week of the NFL preseason and marks the team's first visit to Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on FOX.

Philadelphia kicks off the 2009 preseason slate with a home game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The game will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 at Lincoln Financial Field, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. This marks the second straight year these two teams will clash in the preseason. The Eagles posted a 27-17 win at New England last August.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, the Eagles host Jacksonville in the first ever meeting between these two teams in the preseason. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. The game will also mark a homecoming of sorts for left tackle Tra Thomas, who spent 11 years in Philadelphia before signing with the Jaguars during free agency. Historically, this is the game in which the starters play the most, so it should be a decent gauge to find out where the Eagles are two weeks before the regular season begins.

The Eagles and New York Jets, who have met 24 times in the preseason over the last 24 years (they played twice in 1992 and did not face each other in 2000), will close out their preseason schedules on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Giants Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The finale is usually a great time to watch some players make their last-ditch efforts to make the roster. New York won last summer's meeting, 27-20.

Under head coach Andy Reid, the Eagles are 15-25 in the preseason. The team was 2-2 in the 2008 preseason.

Exact date and time of the preseason opener will be announced at a later date. All Eagles games will be simulcast on WYSP (94.1 FM) and WIP (610 AM).

Great Job on article Bob...don't know if you get enough credit but you da man! I am surprised not to see Pittsburgh in our preseason schedule. So used to it. I do like the National Game with Indy and kicking it off at the Linc with New England. And the Jags for the first time..... Can't wait for the season to start again. Dawkins will be truly missed. There has been so many changes during the off season it's hard to keep up with it all. I'm interested to see how the defence will do without Dawkins. I like the preseason schedule. It should get the people buzzin bout Philly D.

I'm pumped that the preseason schedule is out! Apr 15th is just around the corner, so the regular season schedule will be out soon. I hope the powers that be made it memorable for a SUPER run! I like the colts game, the opener is good to see DMac perform while in training camp. Game 3, the Jags has alot of playing time for the #1s and the last of course, the Jets for guys gunning for the team, remember Joe Mays last year? Looking 4ward to Lehigh to see the players upclose!

I’m not sure about anyone else but I was just elated while reading the preseason schedule; not for any reason except for the fact that the season is approaching even closer. NBA, NHL, and even MLB have no match for the allure and magic of the National Football League (although I am looking forward to the Phillies this season). Jacksonville is going to be the game to watch, as the third game of the preseason always is. I look forward to analyzing the young talent and new faces the Eagles would have acquired over the off-season. It’s getting closer boys I can’t wait!!!!!
