S Jones In With A One-Year Deal

Safety Sean Jones is "turning a new leaf" in his NFL career. And that change began Friday as Jones inked a one-year deal with the Eagles.

"It feels great. Philly has great tradition here," Jones said at his introductory press conference. "The fans demand the team to win and I'm very excited to be here and be a part of this organization. I want to thank (head coach Andy) Reid for giving me the opportunity to come and showcase my talent."

A second-round draft choice of Cleveland in 2004, the 6-1, 225-pound Jones has played in 60 games (44 starts) during his five-year career with the Browns, recording 300 tackles and three forced fumbles. The 27-year-old Jones ranks third among NFL safeties behind Ed Reed and O.J. Atogwe with 14 interceptions since 2006. He is also one of just four players in the NFL to have at least four interceptions in each of the last three seasons. The others are new teammate Asante Samuel, the Packers' Charles Woodson and Reed.

"I think I have a natural knack for the ball," Jones said. "Playing quarterback when I was younger, I kind of recognize stuff before it happens, so that really helps me out a lot."

In 2008, Jones appeared in 12 games and recorded 83 tackles and four interceptions, including one at Philadelphia on Dec. 15th. He underwent knee surgery following the first game of the season vs. Dallas, and was sidelined for the next four contests. Jones missed his rookie campaign after suffering a knee injury in a May minicamp, but rebounded in 2005 to appear in all 16 games and led the team with 20 special teams tackles. The following year, Jones was named the Browns' starting strong safety and went on to post consecutive seasons with 100-plus tackles and five interceptions from 2006-07. Jones also earned a spot on Sports Illustrated's Dr. Z's All-Pro team following the 2006 season.

"My knee is 100 percent right now," Jones said. "At the beginning of the (2008) season, I kind of banged it up and I had to have it scoped early in the season last year. It was kind of swelling throughout the whole year. I think the last two or three games, it started to become like how it was in the 2006 and 2007 campaigns. My knee is great right now, I just can't wait to come out here and be an Eagle."

A former standout at the University of Georgia, Jones earned first-team All-America honors as a senior in 2003, after serving as the team's defensive captain. A two-time All-SEC selection, Jones finished his collegiate career with 250 tackles, seven interceptions and a school-record four blocked kicks.

The Atlanta, Ga., native attended Westlake High School. As a senior quarterback in 1999, Jones threw for 2,490 yards and 31 touchdowns, while rushing for 806 yards and 11 scores. He also notched 13 interceptions as a defensive back, en route to all-state and All-USA Today honorable mention honors.

LMAO...like i had posted at the beginning of this thread. Some of the things you guys post are just dumb. I know we're all EAGLES fans, but it doesnt hurt to watch what is going on around the league. Always talking about signing ppl who aren't even FA's, signing FA's who were signed a week ago. Now trading Sheldon. Why in the world would they make a move like that after trading LITO. Don't tell me you see Sloselio Hanson opp. Samuels. To me Hanson is a joke(Giggity Giggity!!!) Always at the right place at the right time(3 plays all yr long/2 of them were because of other players forcing them/DAWKINS/BRADLEY). Come on FO you kidding me. This guy gets a 5yr deal for constantly getting beat. R. Hood was better than this guy...though Hood is not starting material either.

Everyone relax the Eagles will make a move in the draft to get a WR, mark my words. If for some reason they cant get a deal done for a #1 WR, they will get a playmaker high in the draft. I believe the Eagles are going to make the most trades in this years draft. The Brown Brothers-Reggie and Sheldon will be put out there as trade bait along with a few other players. I really feel like Mel Kiper Jr. and the funky bunch will be saying the Eagles made the most significant improvement in this years draft. Let's hope so anyway...

Everyone thinks that a deal for Boldin would be a smart move, but I think that drafting a big reciever in April would be the best move. Only because we can mold him into the player that fits the eagles style of play. Why would you want a guy who acts like he is so great and I want out, and he was willing to sit out last year because of it. Come on are you guys not tired of soap opera" All my Eagles", "As the Spiral Turns" "One Touchdown to Live" okay I'm done.

Is there a back in the first round that is westbrooks replacement cause if we draft a back that high we wont for at least another 4 years backs are deep why not wait till 3rd round and pick up a solid number 2 a big bruiser that we can say get us one yard and he will do it. We need work on our line still its just ok. LT is still a question and face it we need a new center that can actually run block.

I duno guys theres alot of rumors, especially with the EAgles 1 of 4 teams aiming to get Byant mcfadden, if we get him theres a good chance Sheldon could be off to ARZ for Boldin, i hope we get Mcfadden without losing Sheldon and i want Moreno not Wells!!!

this is a good pick up and it wont hurt us in the long run..we got him for a year and they can evaluate him and if he does good in Jim's defensive schemes...we can lock him up for maybe four + years...i just hope he keeps with his great coverage skills because with Samuel...Sheldon...Joselio at nickle..and Mikell coming into his own who had a pro bowl season last year and got snubbed...we'll will once again have a great defensive back field...now we just need to worry about our WR (ANQUAN BOLDIN)...Offensive line...and Running Back core....

championbatista: yo mate..we have Bwest for all the scat back stuff...playing at Wr and the like..what we need..what we'd ALL like to see happen is what Eckle did a bit of..MOVE the chains on 3 and short. So opposing D's cant sit back on us with a blitz outside and get to #5 or catch the Hb in the backfield...with a "BIG Back" at RB D's will HAVE to think about the up front wrk. they will have to crowd the L.O.S. on us freeing up Djak and Kc outside 1 on 1. what we need..is a Hybrid. HB/FB good run/passblocking skillz and a nasty streak for running up the middle.THATS what was missing ALL year. I hope we draft the right guy (whoever fits that mold)

Champion... what is it with you and wanting washed up players (Harrison, Holt, Garcia) and a player most Eagle fans would rather have cancer than see in midnight green ever again (TO)? If you want your team to go out and spend big money on has-beens and the big-names you should be a 'Skins fan, seriously. Honestly, what is the point of having a 39 year old back-up QB with a noodle for an arm? Get a clue.
