Believe It, Eagles Headed To Arizona

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – DeSean Jackson had a few words for the doubters as he hopped off the frosty Meadowlands turf after the Eagles' 23-11 romp of the defending Super Bowl champion Giants in Sunday's NFC Divisional playoff.

"Nobody believed! Nobody but us!" Jackson yelled, with his rookie buddy Quintin Demps close behind. "We believed! We all believed!"

Chances are that a few more subscribers to the Eagle way exist after Sunday, and a victory in next week's NFC Championship game at Arizona would help to set their names in stone.

But these Eagles, Jackson included, know what's at stake. The Eagles are playing in their fifth conference title game in eight years, but have just one Super Bowl appearance to boast from those games. As such, there's no ring for getting to the NFC Championship game, there's no trophy for unseating the defending champions and there's no glory with a loss next week.

Then, the heartbreak would become all the more real. So despite achieving "the impossible" for what seemed like the seventh week in a row, the Eagles have their feet firmly on the ground.

"It's expected for us to win football games. And it's expected for us to be in the NFC title game," said cornerback Sheldon Brown, who will be playing in his fourth NFC Championship. "Anything less is not a good season. We understand that. The veterans have been around too long and have had too much success. "

But the successes for this team seem all the more surreal. Two weeks ago against Dallas, with some help, the Eagles rose from dead-in-the-water to kings-of-the-hill in a mere six hours, clinching the NFC's final playoff spot. This win against New York marks only the Eagles' third against a division rival this season, but they remain the final NFC East team standing.

Credit the Eagles for that. Though the Redskins nearly eliminated the Eagles from playoff contention in Week 16, the Eagles took it upon themselves to knock the Cowboys and Giants from the same perch. The Eagles joined the AFC's Baltimore Ravens in being No. 6 seeds that knocked off No. 1 seeds this playoff season, two of the only three times it's happened since the playoff format expanded in 1990.

The result is a matchup with the equally shocking Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium next week.

"It's all about staying together. It's not worrying about what the outside world feels about us. Everybody is just happy. (But) we're not done yet," Jackson said. "We still have to put in some good work. We're on the right track. It's beautiful right now. "

To keep it beautiful, the Eagles must avoid taking the Cardinals lightly. The Eagles beat Arizona 48-20 in Week 13, but the Cardinals can score points in bunches and they're a different team at home.

Is this title game appearance surprising? Sure. But when you've been to five of them in eight years, it gets old if you don't go to the Super Bowl.

Still, the Eagles are on Tampa's doorstep. There's work to be done.

"We'll enjoy this one for a little bit, but we've got to get our minds set for Arizona," head coach Andy Reid said. "But, like I said, you've got to enjoy it, but you've got to keep things in perspective here and understand that we've got another game."

Hey rharniman, nice comment about my mom who passed away when I was 13. Typical Eagle fan, talk about someone's family member. That makes you a flat out scum. A lot of you forget after the Benglas and Ravens game, I was one of the few who posted Donovan is one of the best QB's in the league and how he will either rebound with the Eagles or with another team. Now all of you fans who posted he stinks and should be traded are posting how you believe in green and the Eagles. Sounds Hypocritical to me. in closing, rharniman, F you.

rememberth... great city?. Lived there for 28 years. Two blocks from the stadiums. Every time Eagles had a home game when I was a kid, my parents had to clean the beer bottles and trash they left behind, drunken fans pissing on peoples laws. You are an imperceptive twit. Great city, I don't think so.

Hey dhough83, I hate the Giants, but fact remains they did win it last year. I know a lot about football. The fact remains, Eli missed a lot of open targets. Watch the game again and you will see the Giants missed some key opportunities in the first half. Not because of the Eagles defense, because of Eli unable to throw the ball. I give the Eagles credit, they won. Going into the 4th quarter, the game was close. I am not sure were you get an old fashion ask kicking. So here's my apologies and one more thing, **ck you.

Guys, I'm embarrassed and excited to have to eat my words! After Baltimore, I gave up big time, and I was really mad after the skins too. I doubted. I doubted Reid and 5...but I was wrong, and so was everyone else who jumped on that train too. NEVER AGAIN!!!! Donovan is a GREAT QB who has never been fully appreciated in Philly (I guess b/c of guys like me), but right now we're all behind you Don...bring us home, and go down as a legend in Philly sports!!!!!!!

hey hkygoal, great post much like what I said all of the truly loyal fans of this team need to support andy and 5 because we need to do what we can to keep that level of talent and character in philly as long as we can. This team has the talent to go the distance but win or lose this season should be proof that our team is dedicated to winning and they deserve all of our respect and support

Congrats to Philly, it's so nice to see them win! Being that Arizona is next door, I was FLOORED at the chance to go watch them play, but tickets are WAAAAAAAAAAAY out of my price range. I'll say this though, I'd rather be back in PA for the game then at the game itself, I'm so jealous of ya'll!!!! GO EAGLES!!!!

Congratulations Eagles! Good job by the whole team. JJ coached the Defense well and what I like is that he will analyze things at half time and then the defense plays better. Other coaches can learn from him. Our team needs to stay focused, practice hard, and execute in the game. We have a very good chance of winning it all. Dmac played great in that 2nd half when needed but I suggest that when he drops back in the pocket that he step forward in the pocket and avoid the rush and then he has the option to either pass or run. This way the linebackers and dbacks won't know what to do and he can then throw a short pass to Westbrook or buchhalter.

I think we have a really good shot at bringing back Thomas/Runyan regardless of how the season ends. I can't see the Eagles letting Runyan, who has never missed an NFL game (started 212 straight) to sign with another team. Thomas has been protecting McNabb his whole career and i don't see plan B being ready to protect our QB's blind side yet. They will both be big cap numbers, but with LJ's "franchise" number coming off the books we should have no problem with them. Dawk on the other hand may be a different issue. I think it all depends on how this season ends. Eagles complete their mission, Dawkins is retiring on top. Should we falter in Arizona or in Tampa then he will want to give it one more shot.

Well Rich for someone whos at least 28 years old you certainly don't have a very good command of the English language so next time you want to post try to have your Eagle loving mom spell and grammar check it for you ! That being said we played in the same conditions the Giants did, we missed recievers too, had we hit ours it would have been a bigger point differential. As well to everyone out there who ever bashed McNabb, either eat your words or become a Lions fan. McNabb Canada loves you brother!

Congrats to the Eagles for a huge win yesterday! D-Nabb did a nice job hanging in there after the offense didn't do much the 1st half. The 'D' continues to amaze every week. JJ you are awesome and keep it up! richmd i have no idea what in the world you are talking about. Shoulda, could, woulda...why don't we go back and complain how the Eagles should have scored on the Bears inside the five when they had four attempts? Lets sit there and say "well we should have tied the Redskins on the last play of the game". Bottom line, your QB didn't make the plays when he had to. Credit Arizona for surprising everyone. Throw out the first meeting b/t these two cause there is a lot more at stake!! Go Eagles!

How many Giant fans shot themselves in the leg yesterday????? The giants are s*** and they were very lucky last year with the hail mary pass to Tyree. MAnning resembled the old manning from his first two years in the league. He cant even throw a spiral. MCnabb gets it done once again and keeps proving his critics. #5 is a leader and knows how to get the job done. I am tired of hearing "its was too windy," we are missing Plaxico," Bunch of babies. Mcnabb got it done in the wind, we were missing Shawn Pro Bowl Andrews, but you dont hear us complaining. Up next, the Cardinals. These birds receive mad credit to getting where they are today. It wont be easy, but our DEFENCE will shut them down. As Mcnabb said, "if we get in, we will be kicking doors down," They kicked two doors down and two more to go. EAGLES. (toronto)

I don't know what game you were watching richmd@, and i don't think you know football from you're a-hole. That was a good old fashion asskicking and you should really stay off our site with you're pathetic excuses. Giants got the **** kicked out of them period. What happened on 4th and 1. What happened on 4th and 2. That's right Bunk happened ****. I hate the Giants and I hate their bull**** arrogant fans even more. Worst fans in the league. NY and their fans always have an excuse. Eagles are gonna win the Superbowl and their not gonna need a bull**** Hail Mary pass (Eli to Tyree) to do it. They are gonna earn it and deserve it. E -A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!

Congratulations Eagles! Great job going into NJ and knocking off the defending champs and good luck against the Cards! That said, i am a bit disappointed that the Giants fans are flooding this page with excuse layden comments as to why they lost the game (as opposed to why the Eagles won). Remember in November, after the game there were numerous comments saying "if there wasn't any wind, we would have won that game". Come on GMEN fans, where are the excuses? They are some of my favorite comments to read after a victory.

gotta give JJ credit. I have always questioned everyimte they add to the secondary.( drafting Browwn and Sheppard when Taylor and Vincent appeared just fine. and picking up Samuel this year)but I'm always proven wrong. Good job. I want my team o disprove my doubts and you guys have done it as well as ever these last few months. Keep it up!

richmd-you need to get a life. All that matters now is we are in the final four and i assume by the bitterness in your post your team is not. Add in this is the 5th NFC title game in 8 yrs. and it is apparent that if this team gets a ring you gotta start talking HOF for Dawk Mcnnabb and Reid. We have a great city and team so SHUT UP!

One thing is certain, the eagles will go the super bowl. The cardinals are a sorry excuse for a team. the fact the cardinals are in the conference championship speaks of how weak the nfc is. Eagles win 42 to 10. I hate the eagles!!!!!!! and all their fans!!!!!! This includes every member of my family whoa re eagles fans.

I lived in Philadelphia fro 28 years and witnessed a lot of eagles fans. That is why to this day I hate the eagles and root for any team that plays the. Lets face it, if Manning hit's the 5 wide open receivers the Giants wins. The eagles offense was horrible in the first half. Its funny, if manning hits the wide open receivers Giants win and the stupid eagle fans are ****ing about the eagles offense bot stepping up. Instead, you stupid no brains eagles fans are praising the eagles defense Watch the game again and look an how many open receivers the giants had. The eagles are lucky to be in the playoffs and lets face it, the nfc is weak.
