Demps' Return TD Electric

BALTIMORE -- The only thing needed was the pose.

After Quintin Demps' 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 1:37 remaining in the first half, the rookie ran to the sideline looking for his draft classmate, wide receiver DeSean Jackson. When the two found each other, they folded their arms and leaned back as if they were posing for a picture.

It's a scene we've seen before. We saw it in the season opener against St. Louis. We saw it in the preseason against New England when Demps and Jackson each had a return for a touchdown.

Demps provided the reason for the celebration on Sunday after he took the kickoff from Steve Hauschka at the goal line, raced up the middle before breaking wide to the left where he cruised in for the Eagles' first points of the afternoon.

"Any time you can get a kickoff return for a touchdown, you hope it can be a spark for your team. It was a big-time play, and I hoped it would get us going," Demps said. "I just trusted my blocking. Then, I picked up my knees and ran hard. I just hit the hole and went. At about the 50-yard line, I knew that I was going to score. I made one move and that was all I needed."

The fourth-round pick out of UTEP appeared to be due for a big return. This season, Demps has had a return of at least 40 yards in five games including Sunday's. His previous long was a 63-yard return at San Francisco.

"I was confident that it would happen sooner or later," Demps said. "But, I would gladly trade it for a 'W.' Making a play like that would have felt a lot better if we won the game."

It's been quite a while since the Eagles reaped the benefits of a kickoff return for a touchdown. Demps was a 16-year-old at Roosevelt High School in San Antonio when Brian Mitchell took a 94-yard kickoff return to the house against at Arizona on Nov. 4, 2001.

Demps' return was the longest by a rookie in Eagles history and tied the fourth-longest in the franchise's annals. Timmy Brown's 105-yard return against the Browns in 1961 is the record-holder.

It's ironic that the return also set the record for the longest allowed in Baltimore Ravens' history. Head coach John Harbaugh was the Eagles special teams coordinator from 1998-2006 and had the team ranked No. 1 in the league four straight years from 1998-2001.

Forget evaluating Kolb today. Nothing was shown today. No running game or preparation against a really good defense in 1/2 game. Let him play the rest of the season then make a decision. Perfect time to do that because of the 2 first round picks we have in 2009 draft and the remaining schedule against each division rival. If Eagles like him at end of season, get a RB, OT, WR in first round and second to help Offense, lots of talent in those positions. If Kolb is out, go after the QB in the first, package picks and trade McNabb to get that deal done to get the guy you want, then you can still get the RB, OT, WR in 09. Could be a smooth transition for Eagles to go either direction with or without Kolb. McNabb is GREAT but this might be the perfect time to transition this team away from his leadership. I've been a McNabb fan since Syracuse, he is a great QB even better person from what I can see on the outside not knowing him. Its hard to say bench him for the rest of the season and trade him, BUT its time to get some value for him while he is fully healthy, get additional picks in the draft next year. Its not working with him, for whatever reason. Lets see what Kolb can do against the 3 division teams and rest of schedule. Nothing to lose at this point.

I give Andy Reid credit today. Reid stepped up his coaching and did everything he could try to spark the team and offense. 1) Reid was aggressive in his play calling, going deep early and often, McNabb under threw one and it was picked, over threw others. 2) Reid went to the run early and what happened? Buck got his knee hurt, westbrook is obviously hurt and can't run. No RB's in rest of game capable of running killed team, same as running game has all year. 3) Reid threw to the "FB" Klecko which is rare 4) Reid went no huddle in the first quarter 5) Reid changed the defensive personnel to start Jordon 6) Reid made the tough call to put Kolb under fire and bench McNabb. Reid made some mistakes but overall did a GREAT JOB responding from last week coaching. He tried everything he could and it didn't work with the offense. We all got what we wanted, Reid making some moves, changing plays, personnel etc and it still didn't work. Tough game to watch and opens up a lot of offensive personnel questions.

Look all you people that say Mcnabb is at fault it isnt him. Since the day he came into the league he has not had but one decent receiver (TO) and hasnt had a coach that could call plays. Im glad that Mcnabb got benched because the 2nd half was filled with the same stuff the 1st half was filled with an inconsistent offense and lack of decent playing calling by Reid and recievers that could not get open because they suck (except Jackson) and wouldnt last 1 game on a decent team like the patriots or giants and poor throws by the QB (Kolb). Benching Mcnabb was Reids biggest mistake because he just exposed his bad decision making practices to everyone. What an embarassment. They have no run game! Definetly need a bigger back so their not throwing 30yards bombs that get picked off on 3 and 1. And what sense does this make Reid decides to dress 2 RB's when one of them (Westbrook) didn't even practice this week and then during the game Correll got hurt luckily for them he returned (not at 100%) but what if he couldnt return and Westbrook reagravated his ankle or knee they would have no RB's. This team has a lot of problems and Jefferey Lurie needs to grow a pair and send Reid on his way. Mcnabb needs a good play calling coach and a true #1 reciever give him a season with that and we might see a different more sucessful Eagles team.

EAGLES JUST CAN'T CUT NCNABB IF ANYTHING TRADE HIM FOR SOMETHING IN RETURN. IF YOU CUT HIM AND LET HIM GO FREE TO PICK A TEAM IT WILL BE ANOTHER BAD MOVE BY THE EAGLES. LETS GET A NEW COACH AND SEE WHAT WE CAN DO ((( KEEP MCNABB AND LET ANDY GO )))

It's not AR. It's not play calling. I isn't Santa Claus or the refs--It is a team that is mediocre in total. Writers have sold the fans a bill of goods. The fans are eager to make each Eagle something special. You people are living in fantasy land Your summer Earth Wind and Fire turned out to be Dirt, Breeze and Ember. Westbrok is top grade but showing wear and tear. Andrew is first class, but is a head case. Djack is a good one, but too small for every down all season long. What is left is from good secondary and Akers, to complete mediocrity. AR doesn't help. Get real--this team needs two three years of rebuilding and new coaches,

WTF Its not MCNABB you idiots. The problem is REID and his play calling, and use of the recievers. We still need a TE and could use a top reciever but i think DJ, AVANT, and Baskett should be the starters.

I would just like to say that Demps' return was awesome it was a good spark that could have gotten some momentum but it was blown by kolb getting put in the game I only saw one drive of his the one with the 108 yard pick 6 and I thought he should have kept the ball and ran it. I think even McNabb would have done that cuz Brown was not open I dont know if I want to bag on 5 or not but I think that AR should go, I don't know what to say really.

All you KOLB Lovers there you go. Thats your future. He sucks. Andy needs to go cause his play calling is horrible. Once again PHILLY is waisting another great QB. They ruined Randall by not getting him top recievers and they chased him away. Randall dominated in minnesota with top recievers. Now you waste Mcnabb with average recievers except DJ(rookie) and your play calling for mcnabb is horrible. Andy you gotta go. Not DMAC. He still has some good years in him.

the defense this year has played oustanding to me....can't expect this defensive group to bail us out all the time..if the offense doesn't score is more work for the defense..plain and simple...so we keep jim johnson he is a great defensive coach and please i am another eagles fan on the fire andy reid van wagon........thank you for this last 10 years but you have to go and don't forget to take your 2 delinquent kids with ya.......and for #5 goes....well i guess he is the better qb that we have right now....i can give the benefit of a doubt on this one since this is the 2nd game i saw in 10 years that he is not in the zone....soooo the people responsible for the embarrasing game this year is andy reid and he's sorry a** coaching staff................and kolb...**** that was horrible to even watch......thank you andy reid for a great pick..you r a joke~!!!!!!!!!!

fellow eagles fans this is the first time in 10 years that i have actually turned off a game. WTF was Reid thinking? u bench your starter who granted was playing well, for an inexperienced QB when ur down by 3. this is the s*** that he's been doing all season. making stupid decisions that have cost our team wins. the other f'd up decision hemade was to suit up 6 WR's and only 2 RB's. what kind of logic is that when BWest has been hurtin all season. i am startin to jump on the fire Andy bandwagon. for all of those fans that asked for Kolb u got ur wish. it goes to show its not the QB its the system.

I BET MY LIFE ON IT THAT MCNABB GO TO A TEAM AND WON A SUPER BOWL. I THINK HE IS GOING TO LINK UP WITH THE OLD OC IN (MINN) AND WIN WATCH. MCNABB HAD A GREAT RUN IN PHILLY WITH VERY LITTLE HELP OTHER THAN T.O. AND SOMETIME B-WEST.

i m so glad to finally see the reaction of the fans in the same manner that i have been feeling for a while now, it is jus too bad that everyone is sarting to realize this only now...as a TRUe eagles fan i will say that i am GLAD we lost this game, it was a neccesary evil that this team had to go through in order to put in perspective on what was wrong with the team and what needs to change before the next season. the train has passed for this years playoffs because two major changes were not made in time. i hope, mr. lurie, you will take 10 min of your time to actually read some of these postings, and most of all i really hope you will realize that a reid's time as a head coach is over, as well as that d. mcnabb is no longer what this team need in a QB...i will not depledge as an eagles fan because i still believe (despite the two in question) we had a good team this year, and with young talent like demps and jackson, this team still possess talent and we need a new head and offensive coach that will know who the right QB for this team would be and will know how to harnest that talent. kolb is too green to be put i the game, especially against a top 3, if not the best D in the nfl, and what happened to AJ feeley?? y was he not in the game in sub for mcnabb, is he injured or was this jus one of a reid's "clever" decissons to put kolb in instead? good night to all the eagles fans and lets hope that the change is coming soon
