McGee Waived: Ikegwuonu Placed On NFI List

By: CHRIS McPHERSON

The Eagles released kicker/punter Richmond McGee and placed cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list on Tuesday. The Eagles are now at the league-mandated roster limit of 75. The Eagles will have until 4 PM (EST) on Saturday to cut the roster to 53 players.

Per NFL rules, Ikegwuonu, a fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin, can return to the practice field between Weeks 6 and 9 of the regular season. Ikegwuonu suffered a torn ACL preparing for the Scouting Combine in January. He was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of training camp. Once Ikegwuonu is taken off the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, the Eagles have 21 days either to place him on the 53-man active roster or the injured reserve list.

A three-year letterman at Wisconsin, Ikegwuonu decided to enter the NFL draft following his junior season after earning his second consecutive first-team All-Big Ten selection. The 5-10, 194-pound Ikegwuonu was an All-America honorable mention candidate and an All-Big Ten honoree as a sophomore in 2006 after making the switch to right cornerback. Before he suffered the knee injury, Ikegwuonu was expected to be a first-round pick.

McGee handled both punter and kickoff duties during his career at the University of Texas. He averaged 39.6 yards on 130 punts and 36 percent of his kickoffs went for touchbacks while at Texas. In training camp, McGee was the backup to David Akers at kicker and Sav Rocca at punter.

thriceanointed, u have some points but here are mine. Paschal over Considine: Paschal is young, smart, and has tons of will power. he beat a 3rd round pick CJ Gaddis for the final roster spot. Yes Considine beat out Michael Lewis but Lewis was already underproforming. Gaddis was supposed to be the next Dawkins. Plus Considine doesnt seem to play as well as he can and does not have good pass coverage. Baskett over Avant: Baskett is 6'4" and can jump 7' high. McNabb said he wanted a big target and this is it. Plus Baskett had 2 TDs for over 80yds in 2006. In my book thats more than luck. Jackson over Avant and Baskett: Avant and Baskett have size and experience over Jackson. But on Jacksons side, he has speed, agility, and a complement from Jerry Rice: "He is one of the very best route runner I have worked with." Dont get me wrong, both thse WR are great, but I see DJ at #3.

cazmanian--solid depth chart, but i might have considine instead of or ahead of paschal and avant ahead of baskett...maybe even ahead of jackson. dj has tons of ability and football smarts but avant knows the offense even better at this point and has more experience and great hands

When are some of you going to realize that you can't put a player on the PUP list if he practiced at anytime during preseason? Can't be done!!!!!!! This has been discussed ad nauseum on the boards. It is not an option for anyone on this roster except Iguana, or whatever his name is.

Anyone notice that Raiders grabbed Lawton hours after the Eagles released him? That gives indication of how tough it'll be to get players through waivers.

The numbers were around the same as I worked out. I'm assuming 9 DBs ... the cutoff will come at LB or OL. He may go with only 9 OL, Justice, Jean Gilles, Cole & McGlynn as the backups. Young could be cut, and Dunlap and Gibson on the practice squad. If they keep 10 for OL, then only 5 LBs. The 6 I was counting had the starters plus Jordan, Mays & Boiman! Boiman is the key, if he gets cut, then either Gibson or Dunlap will make the 53, with the other hopefully clearing waivers to be kept for the PS.

One possibility might be to put Abiamiri and/or Curtis on PUP list, allowing them to come back after Week 6. That would open another spot or two and, presumably, injuries/attrition would open up those spots down the road. Key issues seem to be at FB -- Hunt and one of the kids?...DE -- MacDougle yes or no, if yes, than who goes?...LB -- can Studebaker make it through waivers?...and S -- for my money, Considine should go, hate to lose versatile, high character guy like Reed.

I think the toughest choice is on defense, especially between the LBs and the DBs. It is widely assumed that the Eagles will keep 6 LBs. But what if they can get by with 5 instead? My 5 would be: Gocong, Gaither, Bradley, Jordan, & Mays. [Note: place Studebaker on the practice squad should he clear wavers). This would allow the team to keep the best 9 DBs, of which 4 are corners (Sheppard, Brown, Samuel, & Hason) and 5 are safeties. Is it too far fetched to think that the Eagles keep 5 safeties at the expense of 1 linebacker? Dawkins and Mikell are in for sure, as is Demps. They need at least one more safety. Does JR Reed beat out Sean Considine because of his kickoff return ability (were something to happen to Demps)? What if we could keep them both? Our safeties and proving to be good special team players as well so perhaps the team finds a way to keep Reed and Considine along with the other three. Hmmm.....

re: final 53 man roster Has anyone tried to come up with the final roster yet? try it - it isn't easy to do!! My guess is 3 on special teams, 26 on offense, and 24 on defense. I say the team keeps the following: 1 P, 1 K, 1 LS, 3 QB, 4 RB, 6 WR, 3 TE, 10 OL, 10 DL, 5 LB, 4 CB, 5 SS/FS. Some good players sadly won't make this team...

Diggity is right.Klecko is a lock at that fourth spot.Dude is quick. Why pick Reagor over Klecko?I think we only keep four DT on active roster this year.

Reagor is still on the active roster. My feeling is that he will get cut after the Jets game. The Eagles needs players to field the game as I doubt that they will start their number ones. Although I like Montae and think he can still play, he's not produced at all since becoming an Eagle. Klecko gives the team a high-energy player who never quits on a play. Reagor hasn't shown that kind of hustle since his car accident. I believe the Eagles will keep 10 defensive linemen (6 ends & 4 tackles). Klecko is one of them but Reagor won't be. Such is life in the NFL. You can't keep everyone, sadly enough. The Eagles are in a tough spot. They will be forced to cut some quality players. This is a GOOD problem to have.
