He ranked fifth in sacks and third in quarterback pressures out of all NFL defensive tackles between the 2004 and 2005 seasons. However, football was the last thing on Montae Reagor's mind in 2006.
The 10-year veteran started the first five games of the 2006 season with the Indianapolis Colts. But after he suffered head and facial injuries in a car accident prior to a game on Oct. 22, his season was over.
"It made me realize that life is precious regardless of how things may turn out or how things are going," Reagor says looking back now. "You really have to validate the things you love, and who you love because you never really know when it is going to be your day. Fortunately, God had his hands on me ...I am very fortunate and blessed to still be alive."

| DT Montae Reagor |
The Eagles signed Reagor to a three-year deal in 2007 and he was named the team's recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award by a vote of his new teammates. He made an immediate impact when he recorded a sack in the first game of the season at Green Bay, but after that he saw little playing time as he continued to recover from the car accident.
"Football wise, I am just taking it day by day," he said. "I am happy to still be able to play the game that I love and play at a high level."
Prior to the car accident Reagor was a starter with the Colts, playing every down.
"I was a big impact to their success," he said.
Even after the car accident Reagor helped out on the sidelines and behind the scenes as the Colts beat the Bears to win Super Bowl XLI.
After surviving the car accident, Reagor has learned lessons that have allowed him to deal with the ups and downs of NFL life.
"There are some things you can't control," he said. "I wonder what happened (last season). I didn't know what I did wrong but there are some things I just don't question. My thing was I am still very very fortunate to still be playing. I just wish I could have played more but hopefully things work out better for me this year. I'm just going to go out there and prepare myself the way I should and see what happens."
It is time now though, once again, for Reagor to step away from the field and remember what is most important in life.
"I am going home to spend time with my kids, family, relax, evaluate some things, and continue to get ready for training camp."

Nuuuudiz... We dont keep five safties, we keep five Corners. Our back up if Considine goes down will be between Reid and Demps, Good chance Demps will be the fourth guy and Reid on practise team just in case, unless he plays lights out this preseason.

so who will be our insurance when sweet lil Connie gets injured? Do I still need to explain why we keep 5 safeties to any of you geniuses?

Anothercoldday... Considine is in not going to be cut. Paschal will not make team of Considine. Considine is our third guy at each safety position, he will be our insurance incase of injury.

There is a lot of concern on the # of DT that will be on the roster, it is easy expect 5. Do not worry about Howard taking someone's job as a DT, that is not going to happen. Howard will be a DE on the roster, but in Nickel situations he will be used as a DT. It is very possible the Eagles may carry 11 down lineman, it is really a matter of how talented the group is. I really see 6 DE's being carried on this roster unless Bryan Smith (R) has a bad minicamp and plays poor during preseason. It is going to be interesting what positions get the extra guy, because LB's are loaded, DE's are Loaded,Safety Position is loaded, and WR's have possibility of carrying six, unless someone is traded or Greg Lewis is cut.

The coaches are high on Reagor for passing downs and Kimo for running downs. I think they both stand a chance to keep a place. The ranks IMO go Patt and Bunk starting, Laws, then Reagor and Kimo depending on the team faced that week as far as people coming off the bench. I see Howard as fairly dead weight, he may be versatile, but why keep one guy who can do 2 jobs to an average level? Sure it saves a roster spot, but who says the Eagles need an extra spot? Despite the talk they probably won't keep the predicted 5 safeties (Dawk, Demps, Mikell, Paschal and Considine), and Considine will get cut. IE: no need for an extra space.

I like Reagor. He was a big impact guy on the SB Colts team, and I think has a chance to be that same type of pass rusher this year for the Eagles. Whats the one thing that has been brought up over and over again by JJ....the need to get pressure on the QB, and Reagor brings that to the table when he's healthy. It sounds like his mind is in the right place to come into camp and fight for that 4th DT position. And guys I'll just throw this out there, but DT is a position we absolutely HAVE to get solid play from this year. If those guys aren't stuffing QB's then they need to be swatin' balls down and creating havok on the middle of the line. I'm still not sold on Kimo or Klecko, I think Reagor beats em' both out and dominates OL's throughout the season.
GO EAGLES!!!!

hei... I meant Reagor not Ramsey.. typing as I was getting ready to leave work...I doubt Reagor becomes an unsung hero... but who knows, i hardly saw the guy play last year... maybe he will come off the bench and make some solid contributions (hopefully he can team up with Laws and teach the kid some moves)... I doubt Monte Reagor will ever replace the spot in my heart for Sam Rayburn coming off the bench though... loved it!

IMO Kimo and Klecko are both camp bodies...i dont think the eagles can keep more than 10 lineman and if thats the case i dont see them keeping more than 4 DTs, our DEs are all too valuable especially since Howard can play inside and out...if thats the thinking of the FO then Kimo and Klecko are insurance in case of an injury to one of the top 4 DTs and in Klecko's case FB as well

Reagor will play plenty.

Reagor was Dominant DT 2 years ago. And he didn't start for Indy in SB. But he would have. He's #4. Kimo #5. And thats that. Klecko has no shot. === The most important thing of all is... Reagor is our D TEAM leader. Everyone looks up to him.

jgrasso- what does age have to do anything? If a 50 year old guy came in and out played the others, he'd make team. It's about play. Hei- you keep mentioning Klecko and Kemo battle for last spot on roster- are you thinking 5 DTs for sure? I'm not sure we keep 5 -maybe- but Howard, Kimo, Reagor and Klecko are fighting behind Laws for what may be the 4th or 4th and 5th DT spots in my eyes. None of which matters much barring injury to our young healthy 3 (unless you're tallying the 53 man roster) and heck, it's too early to really be doing that with any confidence.

hei2183@... 06/24/08 8:52 pm ET |
Flyeagles... Sorry but i cant second your motion that Reagor is no good and a long shot to make the team. The long shot to make the team part has already passed, he survived the first wave of releases, Clark and Ramsey were released already. Also this man was fifth among DT in sacks and third among DT in QB pressure, so not so long ago he was really good player. Yes an injury to your eye actually is pretty serious, if you dont see well you are going to struggle getting yourself in good position to drive past guards and center. I believe Reagor is a project and might be an unsong hero this year on the D-Line. Like I said earlier I think Our D-Line is very good right now, and the final roster spot a DT between Klecko and Kimo is going to be a great battle, I agree neither are long term fixes but both are good depth for the next year or two.

bhdman23@... 06/24/08 8:18 pm ET |
First off...Kimo was brought in for Goal line run D,
Second...How does a facial injury hinder playing ability other than limited vision? Dont see how it is taking so long to recover.
|
jgrasso@... 06/24/08 6:23 pm ET |
Does anyone of you guys recognize that Kimo is 37 years old? Shouldn't this be a factor? Based on age play ability I think that Reagor will be the pick or even Klecko. Kimo was signed for security if Klecko or Reagor can't play at the level the Eagles believe they should.

flyeagles2480 06/24/08 6:02 pm ET |
Reagor isent even good....long shot to make team rather see kimo as 4th
|
hei2183@... 06/24/08 5:37 pm ET |
FrancisXMcCann, I would say your right that Reagor has a better shot at being an eagle than Ramsey. Ramsey has already been cut by the Eagles and is currently in S.F. trying to make the roster.
|
hei2183@... 06/24/08 5:35 pm ET |
Ha.Clark, Reagor was not a starter when the Colts won the Super Bowl, that was the year he had the car wreak. I think Reagor is in a Good position to make the team, I would say as our 4th DT, but I dont know how much playing time he is going to get. No matter what the Defensive Tackle position is starting to gain so great depth. The last spot for DT is being fought over by Kimo and Klecko, which is a good situation because Kimo is a goal line specialist stuffing the run and Klecko is athletic and is insurance at FB and can catch out of the backfield as well as play DT until he is needed. Well it is going to be a good fight for that last roster spot.

Nice story and everything, but I don't see him making the roster post camp. I wish him the best, but his best days are behind him.
Flyeagle, try wiping- it might help.

Nice to see this guy making a comeback after such an unlucky event. I wish him all the best...

Clark... he didn't play in the Super Bowl... and he is in his 12th season... alot of times, these sweet and heart felt articles are followed next week by the "shocking" release article... Van Olhoffen came in for a reason my friend and while I think Darren Howard stinks, he probably has a better chance than Ramsey to make the squad do to his versatility.

shows u how deep we are, when a starter for a super bowl champ comes off our bench.
